Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, September 18, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Good Monday everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend wherever you are. Today the waves are small but still have good shape and push, but looks like in the next few days it will continue to reduce in size until the weekend.

Today is a beautiful day. Earlier in the morning we had a nice little rain, maybe more like a drizzle but it was for sure nice. It cooled down the morning and mad it easier to hang out at the beach and take photos.

Javier Baldovinos

It was a little bit too early for the tide but there were already three people in the water when I got to the beach. There were still some fun ones on the sets and many went unridden.

But just a few minutes later Jan and Aurelia from The Surf Sanctuary showed up, ready to wait and take the “big” ones from the sets so no wave could go unridden.

Check out their quiver: straight-line rails, noseless surfboards… should be fun to try them, maybe next time I find them in the water I’ll ask them to let me catch one or two waves with their boards.

Javier Baldovinos

One of the few locals in the water today with a nice little spray, he was doing a great job on these little waves.

Look at the right on this empty wave, somebody should be there under that lip, it’s just a shame for a little wave like that to be alone.

Javier Baldovinos

This is the only barrel that I saw today, the kid had to crouch down tight to get in the there but he managed to come clean out of it.

Little by little more people started to show up but still was empty comparing it to the weekend. On the back Jan and Aurelia are about to share a nice set wave.

A great thing about surfing at Santana beach is that almost every day you will see one or two pangas coming back from fishing. Their normal catch includes Snappers, Jacks, Tunas, Mackerels, Roosters, and many others.

So, next time you come to the beach bring some cash in a Ziploc bag, pick whatever you want and bring back home a few of these bad boys for a yummy fish taco or have it Nica style… whole fried fish with a nice tomato and onion sauce! (mmm, watery mouth about drool on the keyboard just by thinking about it)

A Santana surf report cannot go without a photo of “El Matador” killing a small wave with his unique style.

And of course, a photo of The Mermaid flying and slashing down a nice wave. Remember, Aurelia teaches yoga Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Sanctuary, you should try one of her classes.

And with this photo of Aurelia checking if I saw her wave I’m going to say good bye. Get your longboards ready for the next few days because it looks like it’s going even smaller… and probably onshore too. Either way, come back to check out our surf report, there is always something to show here.
