Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, June 03, 2023

Josh S

Hey viewers! Welcome to the Saturday Surf Report. I walked down to shoot Colorados this morning, but ended up seeing more action at Panga Drops, so I darted further North in search of greener pastures.

Josh S

Definitely more action up here… Haha! It was sizzling hot and the air was thick (humidity), so there was a lot of traffic on the beach. Everyone was looking to catch some of that sea-breeze.

Josh S

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Mr. Rojo from yesterday’s report! The onshore winds combined with a new larger swell resulted in trickier conditions today. Mr. Rojo working on his leap-frog form here!

Josh S

I missed these guys' surf session this morning. Looks like they are huddling up for a post-surf board meeting. I was surprised to see a handful of chicas out there charging in the larger surf. Way to get out there ladies!

Josh S

Mr. Rojo will reap most of today’s surf report glory. Drawing out a long bottom turn on this big Panga Drops left. This wave showcases how much larger the surf was today relative to the past two days.

Josh S

Panga Drops is a very challenging break to get vertical or radical on. The wave is commonly referred to as a gentle giant. Mr. Rojo still somehow managed to squeeze a radical under the lip snap in on this left.

Josh S

This is usually my rate of success at Pangas haha! It’s a good wave to practice roundhouses, but can get a bit monotonous after a while (unless the conditions are perfect and the sections are steeper/chippier).

Josh S

I decided to stop back by Colorados after shooting at Pangas, and was pleasantly surprised to see a few more heads in the water. Funnily enough I took this photo pretty close to 12 o’clock, so our shredder was spot on out there haha!

Josh S

I surfed after shooting and ended up adopting this gentleman’s strategy. He sat further South than everyone else at Colorados, right in the middle of a persistent rip-current. The rip was causing some long mini-lefts to bend in. I even tried to relax my turns a bit today in honor of this guy. All flooowww broooo.

Josh S

There were a few intermediate surfers in the water on floatier gear. So that made for a couple of funny photos when a clean-up set would roll through. Look out below and ABORT haha! I was impressed by these guys though. Usually it’s rare to see intermediates make it out the back without being fazed by the size of the surf.

Josh S

The chica on the blue board from the prior image earned an A+ for commitment on this wave. She nailed the pop-up and is prepping for turbulence, i.e. a mini air-drop.

Josh S

Ok viewers and spectators from abroad (and nearby), that’s all I’ve got for today. It was tricky in the water today, so not quite as much shredding went down relative to yesterday. The sun stayed out all day, which made for a beautiful day to hang out at the beach. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit smaller, and unfortunately still onshore. I hope you’re all having a great weekend! You’ll hear from me again tomorrow if you tune-in for Sunday’s spice (or lack thereof).
