Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, June 04, 2023

Josh S

Happy Sunday everyone! Josh here again with today’s surf report. I took some photos in the morning at Colorados and a few more at Colorados in the afternoon. The humidity has been totally loco lately, but the plants seem to be loving it.

Well, well, well. If it isn’t Mr. Rojo out on early morning patrol! The wind finally showed us some mercy this morning with some smooth-ish faces and a few elusive tubes. Mr. Rojo is about to wrestle with the chandelier section on this one.

*The One That Got Away — Katy Perry begins to play in the background* Our challenger here even had the water photographer perfectly lined up! Oh well, maybe next time.

Most of the surfers in the water this morning were on the prowl for tubes. This gentleman zigged when others zagged and got down-n-dirty on rail, even at the lower tide.

This guy grabbed the baton from our prior surfer in grey and made a nice backside barrel. He stalled perfectly and came out directly in front of the water photographer. Way to line that one up fellas!

Now for this afternoon’s action. When I first got to the beach no one was out aside from Jeison and some amigos working their way back in from a boat trip. The extra backpack weight is good training for Jeison. It’s like surfing with a handicap haha!

Luckily a few surfers paddled for the afternoon onshore session. I met Jesse in the water this afternoon and she was getting some nice rides despite the wonky conditions. I think she may have achieved the highest wave count of everyone in the water this afternoon/evening. Nice pig-dog drop on this left!

Josh S

She was riding a floaty shortboard and was cruising over all of the chop. I think she was working on her “soul arch” here.

Josh S

Ryan Templeton, one of my Turtle brethren, was out for a playful surf this afternoon. He and I were laughing at each other getting caught inside of these weird back-washy clean up sets. Ryan got some nice waves though, as evidenced here with a nice lip blast.

Josh S

He had to be patient on this river-mouth right, but was rewarded with a mini-boost section on the inside. Working on his disco spins haha!

Josh S

This unknown rider came out of nowhere this afternoon and chucked a few 5 gallon tubs of water out the back! You snapped me out of my late afternoon drowsiness with this blast! Nice one amigo.

Josh S

I guess I wasn’t the only sleepy one this afternoon! This fella must’ve forgot he was on a surfboard haha! It looks like he’s eyeing up the lip for a barrel roll though. Careful with that move on that board though buddy!

Josh S

That wraps up today’s report everyone! Thanks for checking in and I hope you all had a great weekend. These kids looked like they were having a good time running around the beach this evening. I’ve seen lots of kids around lately and it looks like they’ve been loving the heat (they’re likely from up North). Kids are usually good company here in Iguana, as it can feel a bit slow here when the wind is onshore and there’s not many barrels to be had. I’ll see you guys again for Monday’s report. It’s supposed to be slightly smaller, but hopefully we luck-out with some light winds in the morning like today.
