Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, June 05, 2023

Josh S

Welcome to the Monday surf report! Today was an atypical day of surf. The wind was hard onshore in the morning and backed off later in the day. I tried to track down some surfers at Panga Drops, but I missed them. Things weren’t looking good… Victory at sea?

Josh S

At first, I was of the opinion that this guy made the correct move, going for a jog. The wind is nuking onshore and the tide is low, so it’s time to hit the shoreline for the daily dose of cardio.

Josh S

Or so I thought! Aside from the opening image, today’s surf action was from Colorados. A few hungry surfers were undeterred by the onshore wind. This guy made himself a force-field with the spray from his sharp carve.

Josh S

This guy was looking hard for double-up barrels in the onshore lump, but unfortunately the lip and section rejected him. I like how his hands and palms are facing upward, as if he is asking, “Why? Why? Can’t you throw me a bone, waves?”

Josh S

He was getting all of the good waves, it’s just unfortunate that the waves didn’t run appropriately for him post-takeoff. He saw the lip falling two sections ahead of him, and had learned his lesson from last time. Time to hit the breaks hard and straighten out to avoid the guillotine section and under-water spin cycle.

Josh S

It was a pretty quiet morning in Iguana, or at least it felt like it, so Casey said, “Why not?” I know people from the East Coast of the US would be sprinting to get out there in these conditions haha

Josh S

Ryan T. wasn’t going to let Casey have the waves to himself, so he too decided to try his luck in the volatile onshore conditions.

Josh S

Well, well, well! Would you look at who got the deepest barrel of the day? That’s right, Ryan T. If you zoom in and look closely, you can see his body traveling on the other side of the lip. Way to punch out of this one at the end Ryan!

Josh S

Our barrel hunter from earlier finally had enough of getting hosed by the weird sections, and decided to pursue retribution. Those guillotine sections may have hit hard, but I think he punched back harder on this one.

Josh S

Alrighty, now we transition to the afternoon session. It’s hard to believe that such varied conditions could manifest in a span of hours, but that’s what went down today. Our hero is trying to pick up his wallet, which he previously dropped, but it looks pretty heavy! Maybe he has some gold and silver coins in there? Haha!

Josh S

This guy looks as graceful as can be on this smooth frontside cutback. He may be at greater inner peace and zen than the Dalai Lama lol.

Josh S

On the other hand, this guy pushed with all of his might through his frontside roundhouse. Yin and yang I guess! As long as your board feels good under your feet then that’s all that matters, unless it’s barreling haha!

Josh S

That’s all of today’s surf action, but there was plenty of fun being had in the sand today as well. This legendary dad spent his morning entertaining the groms haha! They were feisty little buggers going for that ball. The frenzy reminded of Piranhas fighting for a chunk of bait haha. It’s nice to see more and more families coming to visit for Summer Break. Well everyone, I hope you enjoyed today’s report and aren’t too confused (as I was) by today’s strange wind pattern. Tomorrow is forecasted to be similar to today, so we’ll see how the wind behaves and what happens in the surf tomorrow! Have a good one guys!
