Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, July 08, 2018

Brian Scott

Hey there! Welcome back to the Sunday surf report. I had high hopes of reporting back to you today with some nice new(er) early swell in the water, but unfortunately we had to ride it out with a search and search harder mission. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun though. Check out our version of todays Sunday Funday out on the open ocean.

Brian Scott

We started out pretty casually, since the swell was supposed to be building in the later afternoon. No rush to take off here. Definitely not the norm for these 5am dawn patrol hombres.

Brian Scott

As we got out on the open ocean, we instantly felt the effects of the 20+ mph hour winds we were graced with today. That and the fact the swell hand’t shown up, or even worse, there no waves anywhere.

Brian Scott

But alas, just like I told my amigos to be patient and something will come. Sure enough after about an hour of waiting, we saw our first glimpse of some ridable waves.

Brian Scott

Rob wasn’t sure if he should be happy we had waves, or if he should be disappointed the swell just wasn’t hitting here yet. Since this was our ideal goal…. to score the new swell early at our own little secret spot.

Brian Scott

David didn’t care regardless. This was his last day to surf here and he was going to make the best of these measly little knee slappers.

Brian Scott

Barry came equipped with a butt load of foam under his feet to help ride these little helpless waves.

Brian Scott

Helpless is subjective as he cruises right on by Rob on an easily 200 yard peeler.

Brian Scott

Barry, stoked??

Brian Scott

I think yes!!

Brian Scott

As the day (session progressed) it seemed like maybe, just maybe, the sets were getting a tad bigger.

Brian Scott

Rob, coming at me, down the line on a nice clean section about to hit the upcoming pocket and cruse right on by for another 50-100 yards.

Brian Scott

We had a surprise guest appearance out there from movie legend Robert De Niro, by the way. Jaajaja Soy Bromeando!!!!

Brian Scott

Rob, ummm I mean Mr. De Niro, all smiles and shakas!

Brian Scott

David taking on the right at this predominately named left.

Brian Scott

Knowing the lefts are much bettert, Dave decided to switch back over to the infamously long walled lefts.

Brian Scott

Barry throwing around a serious amount of foam and water. Keep in mind that tanker is a twin fin too!

Brian Scott

Hey Barry, watcha thinking about? Ahhh… I know exactly what you’re thinking about.

Brian Scott

David Lee, is a 5 x Free-diving World Record Holder from Jamaica that really enjoys to visit Nicaragua because of the waves we have here.

Brian Scott

He is also a very skilled kiteboarder and well known fitness guru.

Alright my ocean adventurer’s, it’s been a long day and it’s time to hit the hay. I have another day similar to todays scheduled for tomorrow. Lets hope and cross our fingers that swell fills in through the night and we wake some glorious surf mañana. Buenas noches a todos ~
