Nicaragua Surf Report for Tuesday, June 27, 2023

Josh S

Hey everyone! Tuesday surf report here for your viewing pleasure. The waves and wind both surprised to the upside today! Kai, Sara, and Kai’s little cousin, Carter, on their way to shred.

Josh S

Most waves, aside from the sets, were quite soft this morning. Our surfer in black here selecting the best move for the section, a drawn out roundhouse cutback.

Josh S

The sets were good today though! I was surprised to even see some tubes roll through, given that the wind was forecasted to be moderate onshore all day.

Josh S

I believe our local shredder from Gigante’s name is Jeyner. He is a regular on my reports. He keeps his core muscles tight through his turns which gives him more power and drive.

Josh S

Bauti from Uruguay up to his usual specialty, smooth and strong frontside carves. Now that I think about it, his frontside carves remind me a lot of John John Florence’s.

Josh S

Not only are his carves on rail impressive, but also his frontside top-turns or snaps. By slamming on the breaks and rotating a bit through this turn, he chucks a perfect rooster tail of spray out the back.

Josh S

Whoever said that Colorados has an easy paddle out has never been here when it’s proper big. Today was obviously quite small, but look at this set wave. You better have a solid duck-dive in your repertoire or be ready to abandon ship and dive for the depths. Carter taking one last big breath before going to hug the sandbar haha! The groms have it tough in this aspect.

Josh S

No pain no gain, right Carter!? That’s how surfing really is. You have to be capable of taking a beating to get the best rides. Carter took off on a big set wave for today, which may have made his day? Maybe not, but if I was his age and size I would’ve been amped on just making the takeoff on this one.

Josh S

This guy takes the cake for the most creative session today. He went for a superman to switch stance air on this decent sized right. I wonder if this move has a name? Oh well, it was pretty darn impressive irrespective of what you’d call it.

Josh S

Sara dropping in on a clean medium sized right. I like her line of sight here, but IMO she should be starting to crank her right elbow back more, while stomping harder over her back foot. Get that bottom turn started before hitting the bottom of the wave.

Josh S

Kai wasn’t going to let his companions catch all the good waves. Kai is a tube junkie, like me, so he sent it on this crazy backdoor closeout section haha!

Josh S

One of the best rights of the day rolled through while Jeyner was paddling back out and he decided to turn and burn on it. These are some of the trickiest spots to be in, as you are usually fairly gassed from the paddle back out AND you have next to no time or space to build momentum in one’s paddle line. Effectively forcing him into a late drop that got this best of him this time.

Josh S

To close out today’s surf action, we have Kai weaving through a nice right runner that swung wide of the surfers further North. Way to sniff this one out Kai! Yewww

Josh S

Alrighty everyone thanks for checking in for today’s action at Colorados. I was stoked that some real waves were had today while I was shooting haha! Tomorrow’s forecast looks similar to today’s conditions, so if you liked today’s action be sure to check back in tomorrow. Cheers all and have a good one!
