Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, June 15, 2023

Josh S

Howdy everyone, Josh back behind the lens again! Welcome to the Thursday surf report at Colorados. The waves were glassy and a nice goldilocks size. Not too big and not too small. This was one of the few barrels I saw roll through this morning.

Josh S

This dude found one of the few high-tide tubes. He’s got his eyes on the prize, looking up across the face where he will want to exit the tube. I like how he’s dragging both his butt and lead arm to slow down.

Josh S

Another one of the few high-tide tubes from a goofy-foot rider. The vibe in the water seemed pretty laid back this morning, there were long waits between the sets. Our goofy-foot hero showing off his laid back style with his arms down and dropping his back knee forward.

Josh S

This bodyboarder may have got the wave of the morning. He tucked into this quick mini-right tube and then…

Josh S

Came out of the tube and followed up with a mental front-side reverse. This picture doesn’t do his speed justice. He spun through this move lightning fast and rode out of it clean. Because bodyboards don’t have fins underneath them, they don’t throw as much spray (during turns) and make the rider appear as if they are moving slower.

Josh S

Now for a little Nam (Cesar) highlight reel. This was one of the better lefts I saw during my time shooting, so Cesar did well to track this one down. Cesar showcasing his smooth, graceful style as he cruises across the face.

Josh S

After gliding gracefully across the first racey section, Cesar slammed on the breaks with a strong frontside hack. He’s summoning his inner-eagle with his arms up high on this turn haha

Josh S

Not only was Cesar finding the best lefts, but the rights were also bending his way today! One thing that impresses me with Cesar’s surfing, is his ability to generate and maintain speed through his turns even though he surfs fairly “tall” as opposed to compressing low at the start of his turns to generate drive. It adds a unique feature to his overall surf style.

Josh S

This surfer on a blue board was pulling off some big moves despite the relatively soft waves today. Here he is putting his speed to work on a powerful, torquing frontside carve.

Josh S

He was also the only surfer I saw complete an air today. First place in the air-show haha! It was more of a chop-hop, but he got high despite the soft section, which is pretty impressive.

Josh S

Our laid-back tube-rider from earlier decided to challenge Cesar in terms of the widest wingspan haha! Cesar is a tall dude, so I think he probably took the cake, but our hero here got his wings up higher than Nammy.

Josh S

This chica in black was making good use of today’s “goldilocks” conditions to work on her rail game. She did well to maintain speed through this turn on such a small board and wave. The little-potato chip shortboards generally burn speed in such soft conditions.

Josh S

Sharing is caring? Haha! I suppose she was hungry to get waves out there and opted for the party wave on this one. Hopefully the dude at the back was cool with it, as he took a pretty low line on the wave (stylish rail grab though!)

Josh S

Thats all for today amigos! I appreciate you guys tuning in for the Thursday surf report. Nothing too crazy in terms of surf today, just another day in paradise :) Tomorrow’s forecast looks pretty similar to today’s, so if you liked the silky-smooth medium sized waves from today, then be sure to check back in tomorrow!
