Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Brian Scott

Happy Hump day, midweek long day! New swell, new arrivals & the work flow has been less hustle and more flow with all these newly popping up swells that seem to be creeping in to make the season that much more epic, day by day and week by week. Let’s kicker er’ off shall we!

Brian Scott

Started out super early. . . ya, I know it’s a bit of a late report, but when your services are (finally back) in demand beyond the realm of just surfing, you end up finding yourself shooting from sun up to well past sundown, but hey. . . it always feels good to be back in action. So aside from my lame excuse for my tardy report today, here’s what I got down to the beach super early to find at the reef just up the road. Bigger, with the new swell showing some front runners (for sure) but it was kinda funky and shifty out there.

So of course I pointed my lens back down towards the beach break and said, “well, I think I might as well go shoot down there” after seeing this thing peeling in.

Packed up my gear and headed down for a closer look, and this is what I saw as I walked up. Pretty appealing and A-Framing perfect if you ask me.

Brian Scott

But it wasn’t all perfection, at least from the morning get-go.

Brian Scott

Or was it????

Anytime a new swell is forecast to hit our shores, the anticipation isn’t juts 2 dimensional, but rather, extremely layered with a lot of modern technology of “If’s and What’s”??? (yes, question marks) of how the direction, period, interval, and many other equations are put int the mix of “Just how GOOD will this swell prove to be”.

Brian Scott

Images like this here, can be deceivingly good or bad, depending on how you really want your social media crowd to perceive how you want them to think it was on a day like today.

Brian Scott

This capture is pretty pure in form. That being, it’s showing the size, the conditions, and the relevance to the take off point vs the how much past the A-frame” point should be considered with just this moment in todays timeframe of when I was shooting.

Brian Scott

This one I would say the interval is pretty solid, meaning pretty heavy. And I know this as I watched the ocean from petty much sun up, to sun down and from a few different spots throughout the day.

New swell coming in as the locals are making their way out.

Quick little updated and last photo for todays report, from about 8 hours prior to when I got out there earlier this morning, and this is how the swell has filled in, but at a completely different surf spot. I think tomorrow is going to be firing!!! See ya out there ~
