Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, February 26, 2023

Brian Scott

Welcome and Happy Sunday Funday folks! We lucked out the last few days with light offshore winds in the early AM, but today, they woke before everyone. Everything (unless it was buttoned down) was flying everywhere. Including a lot of sand. . . . lots and lots of sand!

Brian Scott

Coming down one of your favorite beach access paths and seeing this gives you that “aweee man, the winds beat me today” kind of feeling! Haha

Brian Scott

Deep blue and some more upwelling.

Brian Scott

To say it was windy is an understatement. At least for the surfers.

Brian Scott

It’s hard enough to paddle and get into the waves this time of year, but riding them is equally challenging, as that wind just wants so badly to blow you off of those waves.

Brian Scott

Here’s a fine example of an actually pretty nice wave. Only with about a 35-40 + mph winds gust blowing that thing back across the ocean.

Brian Scott

Also you’ll notice its back to the full suits too.

Brian Scott

But I have to give this dude props for making this wave look surf able or I should say he surfed it pretty well considering all that wind he has to battle with.

Brian Scott

Nice little “Taylor Knox” stylie wrap there, amigo!

Brian Scott

Ok, so the results and some photos (Muchísimas gracias Miguelito Espinoza por tomar todas las excelentes fotos y cobertura del concurso de surf de ayer). Da boys, representing us from way down south.

Brian Scott

Oscar, getting out there early for a free surf before the contest got underway.

Brian Scott

Big brother Lesther, donning his jersey and the first round heat while looking very Andy Irons’esk, channelling his inner small wave Playa Colorado Ju Ju!

Brian Scott

Looking fit, and ripping like he does on any given day here at his home break, but in this case way up north in El Tránsito, NIcaragua.

Brian Scott

Jeison “Two Chain” Ontoniel, ripping just as hard has his hermano teammates.

Brian Scott

The contest game faces. The one thing I’m proud to say about our guys from here is they always have a smile on their faces and know it’s really all about having fun. Oscar preheat stretching.

Brian Scott

Oscar looking in form and surfing WELL above your average competitive surfer. Nice one hermano!!!

Brian Scott

Looking back at the contest spectators view. Looks like it was a pretty good turn out!

Brian Scott

Unfortunately our team got eliminated yesterday in day one of the comp, but they purely showed up with 100% determination and as you can see put on a valiant effort of a show for the crowds. Great try guys! Maybe next comp will be to your favor and they’ll have the contest here where you guys will have home court advantage (or more or less - the upper hand with the best wave here in Nicaragua!)

Brian Scott

Like I said, despite not making into the next round, which I wasn’t there to see the contest in person, but One of our finest as like all of them there representing Tola (ie. Playa Colorados) They will always have big ear to ear grinning smiles, win or lose! They just love to surf!!!! Dale Pues y Deacachimba chavalos ~
