Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, December 30, 2016

Hey everybody and happy Friday!! Congrats to making to the weekend! Celebrate by checking out today’s report from Hotsticks.

Today was my day off so I slipped out of our development to check out a nearby reef. This spot always has waves so I knew it would be fun!

Nothing epic, but it’s always fun to get out and surf a new spot with your friends. According to a couple forecasts, there may be a small bump to help ring in the new year! Finger crossed but expectations low… small bump.

Roger Hochman and I met up to drive here. If there’s surf, he’s on it!! Roger, or other nicknames I am not allowed to say on the report, thanks for getting out there with me!

I like this spot because it’s a powerful a frame reef. You take your pick: lefts or rights!

How about that right??? This wave had more west in it. Nicaragua is dominated by lefts points and reefs so I get extra stoked to see the rights working.

Juan Lopez is a local ripper here. He sticks to the lefts probably because he’s a goofy foot but also because the lefts are more consistent and longer.

The rights make a strong case though…

Remember, make sure there is water under you before you paddle or jump. We surfed it at a low to mid so keep an eye out for those suckers.

When it’s big and the tides right, there are barrel sections. Otherwise, it’s a rippable wave to tear up.

Time this wave when there aren’t people. It’s public access and has a couple nearby hostels. For Nicaraguan standards, it can get crowded so be proactive about planning your surfs.

If you guys are coming to visit us soon, plan on wearing some rubber. We are using wetsuit tops but travellers are getting away with bare back. If you’re going to marathon session it, come prepared!

Ok chicos y chicas, time to wrap up and go enjoy the rest of the day! We appreciate you guys checking out today’s shots and we’ll continue to show you action throughout the weekend. Pasa un buen fin de semana!!!
