Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, December 07, 2009

What's up guys!  This is Pancho here for your Monday surf report.  It's supposed to be the off-season but I guess nobody told Mother Ocean.  Today we enjoyed the second day of overhead waves down here in Nicaragua - and it's December.  The wind was shifting around between offshore and side-offshore all day long and the west swell was producing some hollow right-handers.  Best of all, the crowds were light and there were plenty of waves to go around.  This is Chapin, walking up the beach and watching the show at the same time.

Here's a cool barrel sequence we caught on film today (digital film that is).  Sorry man, we know you're from Australia, but we forgot your name.  This is a sick one, check it out!

Aussie, Shot 2.  Setting the rail and looking down the line.

Aussie, Shot 3.  Looks like a runner!

Aussie, Shot 4.  Oh yeah, this one is going to pipe!

Aussie, Shot 5.  Pulling under the lip.

Aussie, Shot 6.  Tucking in behind the curtain.

Aussie, Shot 7.  Now he's in it.

Aussie, Shot 8.  Still in there...

Aussie, Shot 9.  ...and going

Aussie, Shot 10.  Wow, this thing is running again!

Aussie, Shot 11.  I see daylight!  Did I mention the rights were going off today?

Aussie, Shot 12.  Safe and sound.  Actually, he keeps it going and does a nice roundy too but we aren't posting the next 10 frames.  Nice wave dude!  Shoot us an email if you want to get the full sequence!

How's this for a post-card perfect wave?  Overhead, offshore and nobody else around!

This is Chapin from Gigante.  He was scoring some sick backhand barrels all morning long.  He got out by 11:00 am, long after it had gone onshore in Costa Rica.

Here's a shot of the NSR crew, recharging for the afternoon session.  For those of you who hadn't seen it yet, there's a new restaurant that just opened up between Hacienda Iguana and Rancho Santana.  It's run by a local family and they serve healthy style, local food.  A big plate-lunch of grilled chicken breast, salad, tostones, rice and beans is more than most people can eat in one sitting.  Throw in a fresh Papaya juice and a breezy outdoor setting and it's a great place to post-up for lunch.  (it was also only $6)  It's called Isabellas and they've got a sign out front.  Be sure to check it out the next time you are hungry.

After lunch, we headed back out for the afternoon session.  (hey, when you have waves in December, you have to surf as much as possible!)  The winds had clocked a little sideshore, but it was still pretty fun.  Here's another Aussie guy on one of today's rare lefts.

If you were out today and caught some good waves, we probably got some good shots of you.  Send us an email at [email protected] if you want to check 'em out!

I got to paddle out and scored a few fun ones.  The wind was making a cross-chop and these double-ups would form on the inside.  The rights were more hollow than the lefts but they were all punchy and fun.

Ok folks, that's all for today.  We leave you with a shot of a Nicaraguan wheat field lit up in the evening light.  Today was an epic day and we hope to have some more fun waves for you tomorrow.  Remember, if you are thinking of coming down for the holidays, hit us up - we still have a few places available and it looks like the surf is going to be fun!

Pancho out!
