Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, November 21, 2009

Before we get to today's surf report we wanted to post a community service activity we participated in this morning.  NSR, in conjunction with Morgan's Rock and some other sponsors, was out there picking up trash and teaching the kids about the importance of recycling.  It's amazing that we now have this opportunity in Nicaragua, where people regularly throw plastic and trash in the streets.  This event goes to the root of the problem and helps the youngest folks learn better ways to dispose of their trash.  It was a big turn-out with over 400 people cleaning about 50km of road.  In the end, there was a big party with games, music and drinks for everyone.  Special thanks to Morgan's Rock for organizing the whole thing!

Here we have a shot of The NSR Crew giving some water away and picking up some bags full of recycle trash.  We basically ran support between all the groups, moving people around and making sure they were hydrated.

In addition to the kids, we had support from the local police and fire departments.

There's nothing better than an old fashioned sack-race to burn off some steam!  These kids were amazing today - working so hard to keep their pueblo limpio.

Later on, in the afternoon we went to the beach to ride a couple waves.  The waves were still pretty small but it was perfect to take the big boards out.  Plus, it was just a beautiful day to be at the beach.  Check out the lineup!

The water was a little bit chilly and there were a few jellyfishes here and there but that didn’t stop us.  Here we have Carlos Caliente picking up probably the best set of the day with his classic, cool style.  Looking good man!!!

Did I mention it was a killer beach day today?  It seemed like everybody decided to come on down and hang out for sunset.  Our truck was actually blocked in for a while so we had to stay even longer!  That's why Saturday's are so fun!

Lucha went out for a swim today and decided to take the water housing out for a while.  He snapped a few interesting shots.  This is our very own D-litecito showing his versatility on the longboard.  Nice pose Dewey!

Pancho Sanchez was able to pick up some nice ones as well.  Check him out styling on this sweet left hander.  The waves were small but we all had a good time out there.

As we said before the water was a little chilly and the waves were small, those are good signs to go out diving and hook up some fish.  Here we have the catch of the day, including one big ass lobster.  Somebody is going to have a wonderful dinner tonight!!!

It seems like we have a lot of new photographers coming out to the beach these days.  Everybody wants to be like Lucha Libre!

Waves should be about the same for tomorrow so we'll be back out there.  Until then...

Our affiliate photographer, Mike Dennison, also sent in a couple of cool shots from the Tola region.  When the waves are small like this, only a few spots are working.  This is one of them.  Nice shot John!

Here's one more shot from Mike - Guru Donald, riding the big board and getting slotted.  Thanks for the shots - keep 'em coming.  If you guys want to check out what John and Nicawaves are all about, click on the photo and go to his website.
