Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, October 20, 2021

Brian Scott

Hola damas y caballeros, welcome to another beautiful day here in sunny southern Nicaragua. Man, October has not disappointed, for sure! Waves today were in the 2-4 range, water temps were classic Nica tropical (i.e. bathwater warm) sorry I didn’t have a temperature reader, but it was nice to say the least; and yup, you guessed it… people out enjoying the fun small to medium sized playful surf. Enjoy!

Brian Scott

It was sunny clear sky’s here, but looks like it was maybe raining in Costa Rica when I was down shooting today.

When it’s like this, I actually prefer the end of the peak season. For starters, it tends to be the most glassy of the season and 2, nobody really likes being here this time of year.

Brian Scott

So those are my reasons. I wonder what’s her thoughts on these waves, this time of year, or maybe what she’s gonna do for dinner later? I think all she’s hoping for or thinking about is whether or not this aquarium green wall is going to give her a nice little barrel.

Brian Scott

A lot of ladies out there today.

Brian Scott

I mean a lot.

Brian Scott

I’d say maybe the girl to guy ratio was 5 to 1. Pretty impressive, much like how much Sarah is improving with her surfing every day here.

Brian Scott

Surfing really is a numbers game. You have tide, swell size, number of waves in each set, the number or angle (degree) the waves are coming in from…. all the way down to the head count in the lineup. It’s numbers, numbers and then some more numbers. I wonder how many waves this guy has caught since he’s been here?

Brian Scott

Talking about numbers, I would rate this nice little barrel a 9. 6 points for it’s shape and perfection and 3 for the guy riding it.

John is like a salt water logger, as in mountain man. But instead of cutting down trees, he cuts back on his logs and makes for some fancy surfing.

Brian Scott

Two completely different things going on here and a million ways I can caption it. We’ll just leave it to your creative imagination. GO!!!

Brian Scott

Maybe I should have given the first caption of the report a rating of 3-5? J Gillem on a beauty….

Brian Scott

And then he goes and does this…. you tease John, you big tease! Steezy Teezy I say with great admiration!

Hat’s have seem to become more popular, but then again a lot of people are more in the know about skin cancer from putting in a lot of water time (something nobody really cared about 30 or so years ago), so there’s definitely every reason to wear a hat if it helps keep you surfing longer into your 60’s and 70’s.

Brian Scott

If you’re still pulling moves like this when you’re that old too, then maybe hats should be equally as important as the wax you put under your feat. Just sayin’.

Brian Scott

Although, we all know (well if you surf anywhere similar to here - which is quite close to the equator), a hat really gives you a lot of relief from that super strong midday sun. Here’s your number one alternative to a hat!

Brian Scott

Ready for round 3….? Re-apply the sunscreen, refresh with a little water or electro lights and it’s a full on marathon Wednesday of surfing for these frothers!  It’s my Friday, so SBS is OUT ~
