Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, August 18, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Feliz Viernes a todos! This is Baldo reporting from Santana beach again. Today is Friday and the waves know it, they got better than yesterday, cleaner, bigger and hollower so, take a look at what you are missing and start planning your trip to Nicaragua!

Javier Baldovinos

First peak came alive and was pumping all morning, and Junior Martinez was out there doing his normal routine… late drops, high lines, and big barrels.

Javier Baldovinos

And what to do after coming out of those big barrels with lots of speed? Big cutbacks! Here he is getting ready to stick that rail deep on the face of the wave.

Javier Baldovinos

This is power surfing… full rail, hand and hips carving deep on the lip of the wave pivoting for a sudden change of direction.

Javier Baldovinos

Displacing a great amount of water in the process.

Javier Baldovinos

And compacting the body at the end of the turn to keep full control of the board and the speed.

Javier Baldovinos

El Matador Jan was still practicing his backside today. He was looking for the barrel on this one.

Javier Baldovinos

Gustavo was out too, and as always… going big on the turns which brings big sprays!

Javier Baldovinos

The waves were also breaking really good on the north side of the beach, and Emeline noticed it as soon as she arrived.

Javier Baldovinos

Aurelia the Mermaid was out too. She had a great ride on this wave but the guy behind her stole the show with that barrel.

Javier Baldovinos

Here she is on a nice left… where is your magic board? Oh yeah, probably Etienne is using it.

Javier Baldovinos

Junior on another big barrel at first peak. He is been surfing this wave his whole life, can you tell?

Javier Baldovinos

And here he again showing another thing that you can do with the speed you make after coming out from another big barrel.

Javier Baldovinos

Hopefully tomorrow the conditions will stay the same, because I will be able to surf and I want to get some of those barrels from today.

Javier Baldovinos

According to the forecast, today was smaller than yesterday and I guess that made people go somewhere else because today there was less people in the water, but the period today was bigger, making Santana a lot better than yesterday.

Javier Baldovinos

I think Junior is practicing for this weekend’s surf competition in Astillero, the 4th event of this year’s National Circuit. It should be good, if you are in the area, go check it out and support your favorite local surfers.

Javier Baldovinos

El Matador with another of his signature moves.
