Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, June 18, 2017

Brian Scott

Hola chicos y chicas! Checking back in for the end of the weekend report for today. First off, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and had a relaxing time whatever it was you were doing. For us here, that low pressure system that’s been hovering off our coast finally came to a head today bringing lots of rain and a furry of some crazy onshore surreal weather. Enjoy the close of this weekend with what we had for fun here at our local beach hang out today!

Brian Scott

It was still complete messy conditions, but I didn’t expect what was to come later in the day.

Brian Scott

Meanwhile, this is what the locals do between the non-surfing downtime. Noting like a friendly game of fútbol.

Brian Scott

Whether you’re a coach, a player or a fan, enthusiasm is always an integral part of the game.

Brian Scott

A lot of people I meet that are not from here always think that soccer (fútbol) is the #1 sport in Nicaragua, when in fact it is actually baseball.

Brian Scott

Bruno doesn’t care which sport it is… he’s always stoked just to be playing!

Brian Scott

Be it fútbol, baseball or surfing for that matter, the Nicaraguan’s take much pride in whatever it is that they partake in.

Brian Scott

Not a bad playing field.

Brian Scott

Kevin Cortes (far right) is one of the best surfers here at this beach break. He even recently traveled all the way to France to compete in the ISA world surfing games. The local talent pool here is beyond amazing to say the least.

Brian Scott

My amigos Petra and Armando all smiles.

Brian Scott

Same goes with most people visiting here. Smiles for miles EVEN when the weather isn’t our friendliest.

Brian Scott

Big things coming soon….!

Brian Scott

We have a lot of people here who do really amazing things within our community. For example like this here; picking up all the trash that has come from all of the river run off over the last few days. Kudos to all the people who help make this place that much better!

Brian Scott

Ahhh, some actual surfing. I waited and waited for people to come surf today, but my timing was either way off (it was fathers day, I had some earlier engagements - so I apologize for the late report) or I thought for sure I wouldn’t see anyone out the last few hours of sunlight today. But this small group of diehards decided to paddle out the last hour of daylight.

Brian Scott

This was the cleanest wave I saw all day.

Brian Scott

I was so happy though to see a few people make it out. This guy showed that there was not only some pretty gnarly conditions to surf in, but we also had a little uptick in swell too, despite the horrible conditions.

Brian Scott

The water today was also a little cleaner too, if you’ll notice from my last few days of reporting. Now if we can just get these winds to turn back around.. everything will be just fine!

Brian Scott

Cleo agrees 100%!!!

Brian Scott

As I made my way back to the beach club (since the offshore storm that was headed our way, was completely out to destroy my camera gear) I spotted these dudes getting their Top Gun Game on before the storm was about to shut down any and all kind of beach activity for the day.

Brian Scott

Bruno says “if it’s playable, we play!” - a little side note to you Bruno, thank you for the ride home tonight after it started to downpour my friend!!

Brian Scott

If you don’t see this guy surfing, then you KNOW it’s no bueno!

Brian Scott

Buddy is about to go ACE with this serve! But not unless Bruno gets to it first!

Brian Scott

Case in point, Bruno is a competitive FREAK of nature!!!

Brian Scott

All in all, I would say theres’s nothing better than a good day of some non-surfing recreational activities.

Brian Scott

That’s it for the weekend and “HOPEFULLY” this will be it for all of this horrendous weather we’re having as well. Lets see how things pan out for tomorrow, so swing back by to see how it’s going. Until then, thanks for hanging in there with me this weekend and enduring our less than favorable surfing conditions. Stay tuned as we have some new larger swell coming in and things could get good, possibly, crossing fingers!! See you soon ~
