Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, April 08, 2017

Brian Scott

¡Hola a todos y welcome back to the afternoon surf report for Saturday on this magnificent weekend! Today the swell dropped off quite a bit compared to yesterday, but people still showed up - including myself; looking for that magic window that can make a sub par day turn into something special. Take a stroll with me to see what I could find out there today. Enjoy ~!

I decided to throw the water housing gear together to see if I could get out there in the mix and take a much needed closer look at what the diminishing swell had to offer up close. Here's Joe visiting from CA with his family finding some pre-Semana Santa Nuggets.

Talking about getting in there like some CSI work, hows this take off behind the lip (from the ski look)… Gotta make the angles fun, right?

Brian Scott

Met this cool guy and his novia (girlfriend) today on the playa from New York. Bet you’re so stoked to be trunking it here in Nicaragua - as apposed to way up North in the EEUU amigo! Welcome down my friends and stoked to see you here!

Brian Scott

As you can see the size has gone down quite a bit, but if I ever saw this kind of wave back at my home brake in CA, I’d be SO STOKED for many reasons!! It’s all in the eye of the beholder and just remember that it could always be much worse.. like onshore all day for months on end, COLD and super sharky (to name a few)… all very un-favorable things we need not worry about here in Nica!

Brian Scott

Makes all the little difference now when you think of the latter, right? Makes this wave look Yummy!

… and when things turn for the worse with waves be it swell, wind etc (because as surfers we all know there is no such thing as a perfect surf break that works 365 days a year, although we’re pretty darn close here) - We’re realistic! Having a poolside bar at your “almost” said perfect surf break is not a bad consolation prize, especially this pool-side bar!

Brian Scott

Playful Hawaiian, Oahu south shore-like waves in Nica! minus the reef.

Brian Scott

…it’s definitely time for a Toña !

Brian Scott

This is a super fun time to bust out anything other than your expected round pin tail and have some fun mixing up your quiver before the waves here at the Nicaraguan Pipeline call back for your fastest barrel gun!

Brian Scott

I really like how backlit this photo is.. but it would be even cooler if this guys was hanging ten or a cheater 5 on a log (IMHO).

Brian Scott

We’re drawn to it.. bottom line.

Brian Scott

Small but clean conditions. Maybe it’s a good thing so everyone can save their energy for Semana Santa, which is right around the corner.

Brian Scott

Micro Backdoor… ?

Thanks guys and gals for entertaining my afternoon surf report today by stopping by to check it out! I had fun out there.. so lets see what we can go find out there tomorrow. In the mean time, kick back, have a drink (virgin or not?) sit back and watch the swell coming in for the rest of the day from our favorite poolside bar! Be safe on this weekend night out there and lets plan on meeting back here again mañana for some more surf action from beautiful Nicaragua! ~ Chao for now ~!
