Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, April 09, 2017

Brian Scott

Hola amigos & welcome back for the Sunday Funday edition surf report from sunny Nicaragua. Today we had some small to medium size surf with some bigger set coming through every now & then and some gusty to light off shores blowing throughout the day.

Brian Scott

First I checked out the reef to see what kind of swell we had for the day and it was evidently bigger up the beach once I got there. The winds were howling offshore which made it a little tricky to get into the waves but there was definitely some size.

Brian Scott

The rights here are more of a challenge when the wind is up, as you are surfing almost directly into the winds with how the waves march into this reef break. But when making solid turns it’s always impressive with how much water you displace given the added help of those offshore’s.

Jay here taking off on a fun one, navigating the crowd paddling back out.

This wave is super fun and rippable but she definitely has her moods. You can do big arcing carves and turns, but when that inside bowl turns on, you can line yourself up for a thick wedgey barrel when it hits that inside reef section on the right tide.

I had the pleasure of meeting Esther from the Basque country today. Welcome to Nicaragua amiga! Hope to see you out in the lineup again soon catching some fun ones.

I thought I saw something down the way, then I couldn’t quite tell as the palm fringe obstructed my view partially. So I figured I should maybe go see what’s going on at our other break.

Brian Scott

Sure enough, there were all kinds of people here enjoying their relaxing Sunday down this way. This unidentified surfer girl made me want to go grab my board after seeing her on this wave. Looks so Fun!

Brian Scott

The tide was filling in and so were the waves.

Brian Scott

It’s pretty normal that when you see someone getting a good barrel your instinct is to run down to the water. Either that or the sand is super hot… I’m gonna go with both!

Brian Scott

Like I said, the tide was filling in.. check out that backwash!

Brian Scott

I like how Lesther has not one, but two onlookers here (or three I guess if you’re counting me)

Brian Scott

Lots of family’s like to come down to the playa this time of year for Semana Santa. I think the beach is one of the, if not, best places for some nice family together time.

Brian Scott

I’m a fan of this guy’s man fan. Nice turn buddy!

Brian Scott

Dream like conditions? You be the judge. What a way to spend a Sunday, right?

Brian Scott

Dave with a nice little pocket snap.

Brian Scott

Did you know that in surfing, your first bottom turn on a wave pretty much sets up how every thing else will flow on that same wave. Nice form Jay!

Brian Scott

Power, speed and flow on smaller waves are actually some of the trickiest parts of surfing, and that cutback gouge is a fine example of doing it right!

Brian Scott

Mike, stylishly executing a nice backside turn.

Brian Scott

Lesther is a local ripper who likes to expand his surfing in small and big surf. Especially barrels!

Brian Scott

Like this here!

Brian Scott

There are always barrels and empty waves somewhere… you just need to know where to look.
