Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, February 08, 2024

Josh S

Hey everyone! Welcome to another surprisingly fun late-morning / mid-day window from Panga Drops. It was super glassy and the sandbars at the Costa Mar peak are really good right now.

Josh S

John was lucky in that he only shared the lineup with two other surfers during a really fun window. Here he is striving to reach the Hang Five.

Josh S

The lefts can either be really hollow or really soft at the Costa Mar peak. This left went really soft on John so he had to rip hard through this cutback to stay in the pocket.

Josh S

Here you can clearly see the contrast in the steepness of the rights relative to the lefts. Easier to get more critical with turns on the rights.

Josh S

Woah! Johnny even whipping out a layback on a fun-shape haha!

Josh S

John just about got the time right here. About 11:45am haha

This unknown surfer racking up 10 out of 10 style points on this perfect right. Seeing a photo like this gives me Deja Vu from surf season.

John shoveling a greater height of water out the back than the wave’s own height.

John even managed to find a sick mini-tube on one of the hollower lefts that rolled through.

Full coverage.

Josh S

Unfortunately it looks like he stalled out, then drifted up the wave face and got spat out behind the wave. Oh well, getting tubed in February is a gift to be treasured regardless of make or no-make.

Josh S

John was like a robot out there with his near identical backside carves today. Maybe he’s training to be a model for the graphic designers in the next True Surf game haha.

Josh S

This fella who’s been featured in days past tuck ’n rolling on this takeoff.

We’ll close today’s report with a unique variation of the “coffin”, which I’d call the “cockroach”. He’d win the Thanksgiving Expression division with this ace in the hole maneuver. I really wasn’t expecting such fun waves given such a small swell forecast and calls for vicious wind from wind-guru. Someone in the neighborhood must have brought a suitcase full of four leaf clovers with them! Hopefully the trend continues and I’ll see you tomorrow.
