Lot's of things going on in Nicaragua these days - in light of the recent election of Daniel Ortega as our new president, many people have been asking "what's going on down there?". Let me tell you that things have been very good so far (and I'm not even talking about the epic surf and light crowds we've had for the last few weeks). During his first week as "president elect", Mr. Ortega has met with local heads of state, business leaders and foreign investors and has been very clear in his message that he is pro-development, pro-tourism and pro-foreign investment. Additionally, he's specifically stated that private land ownership is an integral part of growing the economy in Nicaragua and that he and his administration are not considering land confiscations. As a first hand witness living down here, he seems to be doing the right things. As another example, the Sandinista Mayor of San Juan Del Sur, sent out the above letter on the same topic.
