Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, January 08, 2018

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone, this is Baldo with today’s surf report from Santana beach. I don’t want to sound dramatic but, the world is coming to an end… global warming, pollution, overcrowded surf spots and now this, NO WAVES!

Javier Baldovinos

In the morning I spent around 30 minutes taking photos of something similar to a lake, with no surfers around but suddenly these guys showed up to check out the surf. They probably had been on the hunt checking every possible spot in the area looking for some waves to shred… they only found that little perfect right breaking on the sand.

Javier Baldovinos

I know how these conditions can make you feel hopeless and desperate, like looking down into an abysm thinking about jumping, “This is the End” by The Doors playing in your head over and over again.

Javier Baldovinos

But don’t despair, you can use this waveless time to prepare yourself for when the waves come. Use that precious time dedicated solely for surfing to train your body and soul to be ready for those big walls and beautiful barrels that will come sooner or later. And what a better way to do this by going for a run on the sand.

Javier Baldovinos

Going out for a swim is the perfect aerobic exercise to get into shape… and nothing beats the feeling of weightlessness inside this Holly water that most people know it as simple salt water.

Javier Baldovinos

With these conditions (or lack of them) the water gets very clear, making snorkeling, free diving and scuba diving (those 4 dark spots are divers) a great option to spend a few hours in the water, who knows, maybe you can even catch your next dinner down there.

Javier Baldovinos

An awesome way to keep your brain in Surfing Mode is to sit on the beach and “mind-surf” each little wave that you see, imagining the infinite possibilities if we could become the size of a mouse, getting barreled non-stop.

Javier Baldovinos

And while you are dreaming about being the size of a mouse, why not dream about having wings too. Look at these two guys gliding that little wave together. Party wave!

Javier Baldovinos

And if you are not into training or any exercises, then another good thing to do is to get back to that old project that you’ve been letting it for “mañana”, and start cleaning, fixing, tuning up that boat, car, toy or anything that has been needing some of your time but surfing has kept you away from doing it.
**I’m just using El Explorador as a photo model, it is actually in perfect conditions, it’s just out of the water to avoid the windy season.

Javier Baldovinos

And last, and also least… you can always drown your surfing sorrows with a good ‘ol bottle of rum by the pool while looking at surfing photos from Hawaii or any part of the world thinking “why did I choose Nicaragua in January?”

Javier Baldovinos

Maybe the girl was just deciding which house to stay on her next vacation during a better surfing month, like June for example, when there are not that many tourists in the area and the waves are firing everywhere in Nicaragua.

If you are thinking about coming, then June is a great month and you should take a look at Casa Rock at Rosada beach, inside Rancho Santana for your next vacation rental in Nicaragua.

Javier Baldovinos

And to show you that there is always hope, that no matter how bad the conditions seems to you, there is always someone having fun out there, making it with what they have, looking at the bright side and going for it. May The Stoke Be With You, little girl!

Javier Baldovinos

This kid had a great ride on this little right. I can tell even from the distance that The Stoke is Strong in Him.

Javier Baldovinos

Kuddos for their dad, showing them there is always room for fun, and some moves!

Javier Baldovinos

I hope these little tips on how to survive flat days can improve your surfing in the future (unless you go for the bottle!). Either way, this is not common in Nicaragua, here at NSR we have more than 10 years of daily photo records to prove it! Saludos!
