Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, September 23, 2023

Josh S

Hey everyone! Welcome to Saturday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. Well the tiny waves finally showed up today… Possibly the smallest day I’ve seen in close to a month!

Josh S

Wes Yockey was out snagging some of the better set waves. He’s good at navigating “cruise control” on his boards.

Josh S

Chris Wilcutt is back in town and is working on his pig-dog. His long hair and beard add some automatic extra surfer style points to his rides haha.

Josh S

I’ll dub this shredder right here “Mr. Blue” for the rest of the report. He got a lot of good waves and turns this morning. He has a unique “shoulder shrug” top turn technique going.

Josh S

Wes effortlessly gliding across another nice right runner. He can pick up some good speed on his specially shaped boards.

Josh S

Alex from New Hampshire has a baby on the way and was still out there getting on rail!

Josh S

A fuller, fish-like board would’ve also been a good choice for the gentle surf we had today. That or a longboard!

Josh S

Aurelie having a stare-down with the oncoming lip on this wave. I think she probably could’ve gone left, but she opted to look right first. Either way the photo looks cool haha!

Josh S

Mr. Blue back in action doing his signature shoulder shrug carves.

Josh S

Woah there shred-lord! You snapped me back awake with this powerful carve. Maneuver of the day right here.

Josh S

I came back a little later just after mid-tide, but most of the good action had already transpired early in the morning. It would still be fun to be the only guys out at a peak trading off waves with your buddy though.

Josh S

Head dip! Barrel of the day today haha

Josh S

Chocoyo’s upper body sag of disappointment pretty much sums up my surf sessions as of late with the smaller waves. I need to work on my grovel game!

Josh S

Chocoyo always manages to find a few lips to belt even at lower tide in smaller waves. He’s a bit of a magician if I had to say. He can’t complain too much though, he was the only guy out at the main peak.

Josh S

The stretch of small surf continues, but today felt like the bottom of the swell! Even Lesther and Oscar didn’t surf this morning, so that’s a solid indicator regarding the size. Tomorrow Tony Z returns to the report, but the forecast is still looking pretty micro so I expect some long-boarders to be running the show. Cheers guys and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
