Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Josh S

Howdy everyone! Welcome to Wednesday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. Josh here behind the lens for the next few days. Today there were some surprisingly fun waves if you were a little patient in the lineup.

Josh S

I like this guy’s confident approach on this right drainer! He is in Samurai form pulling into this tube with no rail grab! Bonzai!

Josh S

He traveled for a little bit on this hollow right, but ended up getting left behind by the speed of the wave. I think he pulled into this right for the vision as opposed to hoping to make it.

Josh S

This young buck in blue found the best left of the morning. He locked in tight under the lip on the takeoff enabling him to get behind the opening section of this wave.

Josh S

Although today’s action mostly consisted of barrels, there were some mean hacks thrown down. This was the most powerful move of the day!

Josh S

Oh here comes the throaty second section! When these north peak bender lefts come through they are reeealllly fun.

Behind the curtain

Although our hero took a very good line on this left, he was still a little slow with his pumping to make the exit further down the line.

Josh S

Pulling into the dungeon! This guy weaved perfectly through this sandy, ripped, yet throaty right barrel. It barely outran him at the end, but his form and timing on this barrel were perfect.

Josh S

Heyner Ruiz squeezing through this mini-mousehole :)

Josh S

Finally we are seeing flickers of Colorados coming back to life! Hollow, but relatively tame barrels.

Josh S

Another nice thing about today’s conditions was that the peaks were spread out, i.e. multiple different peaks up and down the beach were working. An emerald green north peak mini-pipe.

Josh S

Need for speed! Although this wave was too fast, I bet our surfer just wanted to get a wave and some green screen time under his belt while waiting for the next corner.

Josh S

I came back to see how the conditions had changed with the higher tide this afternoon, and there were no barrels, but it was super rippable. Did someone order a large vanilla shake?

Josh S

Whaaaat!?! How’s this club sandwich (a grab-rail blow-tail reverse)? This would’ve been the maneuver of the day had he rode out of it.

Josh S

One last vanilla belt spray shake from down South by the river-mouth to close today’s surf action.

Josh S

This chica’s got it right! Get out and on the surf while the getting is good! I was surprised by the quality of the surf today, but we’ve all been a bit tube starved here, so I’m sure today’s surfers were thankful for the teaser morsel (today’s good mini-tubes). Tomorrow looks like it should be fairly similar to today, so be sure to poke back in, with hopes of more tube-time from paradise!
