Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, August 04, 2007

OK, this is NSR here, coming to you live from Popoyo, the site of this year's grand final surf contest in Nicaragua. We've got bragging rights and the title of "#1 Surfer in Nicaragua" up for grabs today. We've got perfect weather and head-high sets coming through. Before we get to the action, here's a shot of the beach scene.

We've got a few big surprises today - one of them being that Luis "La Baloy" Chamorro didn't advance to tomorrow's Semifinals. Going into today's event, he's the overall points leader in the Men's National division by over 1000 points, but that lead could be in jeopardy now, depending on what happens tomorrow.

Samir was on fire today at his home break and was heard saying "I can surf this place with my eyes closed!".

The other surprise fallout of the day was Gustavo. The Limon local has third place in overall points, but failed to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.

This is Agusto Chamorro, Luis' brother and San Juan Del Sur native. He's the 4th place in overall points and DID advance to to the Semifinals. Congrats to Agusto!

Roberto has the weekend off for school, so we've go Jairo behind the camera this contest. Here he snaps a nice photo of Gerardo's girlfriend.

And how could we have a Popoyo contest without JJ? He was out there doing his thing and destroying every wave in site. JJ made it through to tomorrow's semi's in the International Mens division.

This is Larry, a Junior Division competitor from SJDS. Larry surfed well today and will be surfing again in tomorrow's semi's.

Tony from the Surf Sanctuary took some time off from Judging to compete in the Men's International heats. He advanced as well. (thanks for all the hard work behind the scenes Tony!)

Mario "El Danino" Martinez, started off today second place in overall points. He advanced to the semi's as well.

Brodi "ARUBBERMANCAN" "CT" "SUBU" competed in today's International heats too. We'll be seeing this stretchy kid again tomorrow (assuming his heat isn't too early in the morning...) That's all for today. We want to give a big shout out to Gorgeous George and we'll be back again tomorrow. Oh yeah, Happy B-day Captain Flor de Cana, Lance Moss!
