Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, July 05, 2009

Hey guys, this is the Sunday surf report.  Today was the second day of the surf tournament at Playa Santana.  This is Roberto “Lucha Libre” and your favorite person “Chewy” bringing you all that happened at this beautiful surf spot.  The waves were really fun running well overhead on sets, the wind was offshore and the water was really nice.

We want to start the surf report with the best barrel of the day.  This is how Mario “El Danino” Martinez got second place.  Check out the picture 2 his nose is totally under the water.  That is insane!!!

Check out the second sequence totally drained, you never see him. He probably fell.

On the next shots you can see him coming out and claiming! Man if I had a barrel like that in a contest I would claim it for days!

The waves were really powerful and pummeling people.  Check out all the San Juan crew getting hurt by the Santana waves.  Hey guys hope you get back from the hospital ok!!!

This is Luis “La Baloy” Chamorro taking off on a big left.  Unfortunately he couldn’t make to the finals.  Hey man, that is a shame you didn’t make in the final but the next time we hope you make it.

This is the part we love in the surf contest, when the waves are really fun and there are a lot of great surfers on it. Check out this sick four drops that everybody made. We couldn't believe the drops they were making!

Some of the international surfers were part of the surf competition and having a great time as well.  This is Sean from California popping a 360 over this one.  That’s the way he made in the juniors’ finals.

Check out Rex “La Bestia” Calderon hang dragging on this sick right. You can see how thick the lip is.  Well this time everybody was really excited when Rex made it to the finals in the open division.  That why he is one of the best surfers of Nicaragua!  Congratulations Rex!!!

The longboarders did their best in this surf contest ripping up some overhead waves like they were on a shortboard.  Here we have Lance trying to get a nice shack on this nice looking wave. Lance, you look pretty good on that thing!

The women's division had an excellent showing with surfers from all parts of the world competing. Check out this girl bottom turning on this left.

Congratulations guys, you made a great show today!

We had another free board raffle at the end of the contest. This time the winner, “El Chele” wasn’t happy with this surfboard or maybe the girls just made him shy.  Hey “Chele” next time smile for the camera!  We would like to thank all the sponsors for donating the board!

"Chewy" got knocked out the first day so he had to find stuff to do the second! It looks like he still had fun!
