Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, May 17, 2023

Brian Scott

Well, we made it to another Hump Day. . . and the swell is still large and definitely in charge out there today! BIG and very similar conditions as yesterday (it’s those darn side shore winds that’s messing it up) however on a brighter note (pun intended!) The sun finally came back out, so at least the lighting made for some beautiful colorful waves, sky and all around scenery. Pop on in and take peep!

Brian Scott

Certainly much bigger than it looks. At least from here.

The in-between giant sets were playful AND oddly todays shots, some how managed to make it look WAAAY cleaner that it was out there. Random dude on auto pilot and tasting some of the Nica morning juice.

So, I finally was able to link up to see Mr. Josh out there today. For those who haven’t figured it out by now, Josh has come aboard and is the new surf photog for the surf reports (splitting the weekly duties with me) and we’re super psyched to have him on board. You’ve seen him over the years going from grom, to adult full on charger…… and now he’ll be throwing down some of his photos and comments on the reports, so just wanted to say, “Bienvenido al amigo del equipo”!!

Brian Scott

A lot of moving water out there and where there weren’t barrels, but only big crumbling sections to combat, pulling off moves like this helped keep the motivation alive and well, while waiting patently for one of the BIG ones!

Brian Scott

A mess turned into someone beautifully magnificent. But as we all know, art is completely subjective.

However, I think every single person looking at this wave would all completely agree. . . IT’S SICK!!!! (again, back to my earlier comment - the photos today definitely made it look a lot cleaner than it actually was).

Brian Scott

This was more realistic as to how it looked. But still pretty dang epic and alluring!

Brian Scott

Unknown surfer on the fast track. The really super fast track!

Brian Scott

Double overhead? Bigger? What would you call it???

We wanted to showcase some photos taken from yesterday (if you’ve followed the NSR report, then you’ll remember him well) one of the very first surf photogs, way back from the get go and inception of the Nicaragua Surf Report, our old friend and very good amigo, Jairo “Come Pan” Ramos, who swam out in yesterdays chaos, so here’s a few highlights from his water session ayer! Enjoy ~

Brian Scott

If you’ve ever swam in the bigger surf, then you know how hard it is to line up with all the rips and currents and dodging big sets on the head.

Brian Scott

Jairo has been at it for a long time, as you can see with how well he’s in position here, lined up perfectly with this surfer on this super heavy sick right!

Brian Scott

Clean, crisp, no water droplets, all the makings of a seasoned professional. Yeaaaah Come Pan!!! Great to seee you back up here in our neck of the wood. Also, thanks for sharing some of your gems from yesterdays madness of the angry and furious ocean! Super sick shots as always. Yewwww!!!!

When it’s a full house, meaning Hacienda Iguana is full, you gotta take the public access paths down to the beach. Haha sorta reminds me of all the people who make the the long trek down to Trestles, accept the end of this road leads to a waaaaay much better wave! Come on back for Josh’s next few days on report and check out the action from his perspective. Chao 4 Now!!! See ya’ll back in a few days ~

Remember, even if you didn’t make the highlights you can always look at the link here for all the Daily Surf Shots from each day, there might be a good chance you’re in there!
