Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, October 18, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Hey everyone, welcome to Wednesday surf report from Santana beach. The water is still brownish but the waves are pumping! Let’s take a look at the awesome conditions.

Javier Baldovinos

The river is still flowing which means that there is still a lot going on at the bottom of the ocean, sediment and sand still moving but, as everyone expected, the sand bars are bringing alive the REAL Santana.

Javier Baldovinos

Just 6 people were in the water enjoying the beautiful conditions… yes, the water is not crystal blue but who cares about the color when it’s offshore, glassy and head high!

Javier Baldovinos

Everything has pros and cons… on one side Nate brought destruction (the Caseta’s staircase is gone) but in the other side, check out First Peak… it’s ALIVE!

Javier Baldovinos

Look at that! Every set brought around 4-6 waves like this, around every 15 minutes!

Santana beach has changed, now it seems better in many ways. It has a lot more to offer than just surfing…

Now there is a shore break that looks really good for skimboarding. Does anyone has one so we can try? I used to have one in San Juan del Sur for those flat days at the bay but who knows where it is now.

Javier Baldovinos

There is also a nice little river where people can go kayaking of StandUp Paddleboarding to explore the new banks.

Javier Baldovinos

How about a new beginner’s wave… at Santana?? Yes, there is a little wave right were the beach used to be that looks amazing to give surf lessons. Santana has it all now! You need to come see it for yourself.

The surfers in the water were having such a great time, the lefts were long with big walls to practice the turns.

Javier Baldovinos

And the rights were a lot shorter but a little bit hollower.

Javier Baldovinos

And there were good peaks everywhere. First peak was on fire, several peak breaking in the middle of the beach, and a really nice peak on the north side (see first picture).

Javier Baldovinos

Let’s not forget that away from the beach there are still a lot of people that got it really bad with Tropical Storm Nate. These are donations delivered at El Remate community, an hour hike from the road where the river washed away houses, contaminated wells and left people without food, potable water, clothes and beds to sleep.

Javier Baldovinos

Here the volunteers are showing the community how these donated water filters work and how they should take care of them.

Javier Baldovinos

There are several teams dedicated to clean the contaminated wells so people can get water again. Here is Tony’s team working on one well.

In the next few weeks the water will start getting its normal color and this nice wave will be perfect for everyone.

Spanish Book Drive still underway! One of the many losses for the local community was over 3,000 Spanish children's library books. This is a devastating loss for everyone, especially for the many kids who would frequent the library after school to check out books or get help with homework. If you would like to help, here is a link to the Amazon wish list that has been created to help refill the shelves or feel free to look for other Spanish books: https://www.amazon.com/…/2XPKWYRGI55…/ref=cm_sw_em_r_d_g__wB

Please email Heather at [email protected] for a US shipping address where Spanish book donations can be delivered.

That’s it for today NSR fans. Come back tomorrow to see what HotSticks has to say about the conditions at Colorado. Saludos!
