Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, September 09, 2023

Josh S

Hola a todos! Welcome to Saturday’s surf report at Playa Colorado. The size of the surf has held from yesterday, not big but definitely fun sized.

Josh S

Nose-pick or chop-hop? Either way this guy had lots of speed and put it to work with this move.

Josh S

This guy in turquoise got a high quality combo on this South peak right. He’s rocking the double track pad, less or even no wax!

Josh S

BAM! This second turn was my favorite of his three turn combo. His turn was sharp and he had a lot speed which led to a large plume of spray getting displaced.

Josh S

Good style and flow with this roundhouse cutback on the inside section. His rash-guard matched the water color today, good apparel choice amigo.

Josh S

I wonder if Jeison has been listening to Post Malone - Rockstar ft. 21 Savage? Anyways I bet he was feeling like a rockstar in this frame here. Sky high, flashing the bottom of his board, and he’s got the rail grab.

Josh S

Jeison’s not the only rockstar though! Rutci’s got her hands up and is even flashing a peace sign haha! It could’ve only been more iconic if her hand was in the “rock on” pose instead. She really stomped on her back foot during this turn which caused the nice ring of spray she threw.

Josh S

The layback king from past reports is still out here looking back for dropped wallets.

Josh S

He even worked in a nice second turn on this wave. Putting his speed to work by de-weighting with his arms at the lip and ditching the fins up and over the lip.

Josh S

He can’t be stopped haha! ANOTHER ONE?! This guy loves laybacks as I enjoy backside barrels. I wonder if he snowboards as well? His white powdery spray here definitely resembles snow…

Josh S

The one surfer I saw pull into a tube this morning. He found a right with the appropriate shape and with the wind blowing up into the face perfectly.

Josh S

Jackson getting 12 o’ clock on this right. You can see him starting to drive back down with his right hand and upward with his left elbow to blast the top off this wave.

Josh S

On this left Jackson decided to get heavy over his rail. He applied such extreme pressure to his rail and rotated so strong through this turn that in later frames of this sequence he was completely shrouded in his own spray! I’d never seen someone disappear in their own carve’s spray before, but there’s a first for everything. Don’t be mistaken, he rode out of this turn!

Josh S

That wraps up today’s surf action! The weather on the beach was near ideal (in my opinion) this morning. There was a crisp and steady cool offshore breeze and the sun was present, but not blindingly bright. It was so nice that I almost thought I could’ve taken a nap on the beach, but not quite that cool haha! It was perfect for strolling and jogging though. Tomorrow’s forecast looks a hair smaller, but TZ will be back for the next few days, so be sure to stop back in and see what good photos he brings!
