Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, August 26, 2023

Josh S

Howdy everyone! Welcome to Saturday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. The conditions have further improved today, which is great for all of us surfers here on the South Pacific coast of Nicaragua. Plenty of rippable waves were on the menu this morning.

Josh S

There was even the odd sneaky barrel this morning. I didn’t see anyone make any tubes, but this one looked fun.

Josh S

Style for miles from this surfer! He’s letting his larger frame and speed do the work on this turn.

Josh S

The wind was very light this morning and the combination between longer-interval swell and wind swell made for perfect lip-blast sections. Our surfer’s today were astute in sniffing this out.

Josh S

There were some good surfers out this morning! This guy was ripping out there. How clean is this end-section tail slide?

Josh S

Maybe this guy was watching Karate Kid or Bruce Lee movies on Netflix during the storm. Regardless, he was throwing down some mean karate chops out there.

Josh S

It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns out there today though. Unfortunately this guy probably blasted a lip too hard and his board couldn’t handle the power. Busted stick!

Josh S

Even the boogey’s were getting radical out there. Flaring out on this El Rollo!

Josh S

There were still a couple of bombs every now and again today. I was in the water around mid-tide (noon) and it definitely started to pulse a bit harder then as the onshore wind picked up some.

Josh S

Arm-bar torquing through this carve. Que fuerte meng!

Josh S

I’m jealous of all today’s surfers shiny white sticks! XD I like how this guy is using his back hand as a low-pivot point, but I hope he rotated his vision through this turn as well.

These high-speed end section lip-line floaters are some of my favorite aesthetic maneuvers. It seems to me that these moves peaked in popularity when AI (no, I’m not talking about Nvidia or ChatGPT) was competing with Kelly for tour titles back in the day. I wish we got more of these nowadays!

Josh S

Now for the master of these high-speed floats, Mr. Guido from Argentina! Flawless set-up and body positioning leading into the move.

Josh S

And now for the high-velocity free-fall to the flats! Guido’s a smart guy though, he’s compressing at his knees to protect himself and absorb the shock from the landing.

Josh S

Buckets, buckets everywhere :)

Josh S

Watch out for the crown de Christo spikes! The water has cleaned up notably in the past couple of days, but it’s still good to keep your eyes peeled and tread lightly on the way in and out of the water, you never know where a sneaky thorn is lurking. That’s all of today’s surf action, and I’m definitely glad that the conditions have improved as rapidly as they did. Tomorrow Tony Z will be back behind the lens and Surfline is forecasting similar conditions to today. So there should be some more lip-blasts and hacks going down if you tune back in. Have a good weekend y’all!
