Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, August 02, 2023

Josh S

Hola a todos! Welcome to Wednesday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. Josh back behind the lens for a few days. Today’s conditions were fun, but not as big as I was expecting given Surfline’s forecast in the day(s) prior.

Josh S

There weren’t tons of good waves out there, but when they came they were good. Unfortunately, this below sea-level right snuck North of the surfers in the water.

Josh S

The surfers (primarily congregated at the mid and south peaks) still managed to catch some good sets. The wind was blowing into the rights more than the lefts today, which opened the right barrels up more making them more desirable.

Josh S

There were two or three surfers camped out way down South in front of Pili’s restaurant / the beach club. The sets were inconsistent there, but the lefts were good there when they did come through. I think these few guys were goofy-footers so it makes sense that they were willing to be so patient down there for the lefts.

Back at the mid-peak, this guy did a hero stall and somehow managed to sneak behind the curtain on this right. He took off fairly wide on this wave, so I wrote off the possibility of a tube, but he dragged his knee and right arm super hard to slam on the breaks.

Josh S

Although most of the surfers were on tube patrol, a few of the more active surfers were getting some rail action. This local guy blowing some speed off with a layback hack.

Josh S

Back down South, a wide open left managed to sneak underneath the goofy-footers’ radars. This would’ve been a nice, moderately paced tube for someone! Oh well.

Josh S

Today the surf wasn’t pumping and uber-consistent, so I opted to stay busy when I jumped out for a paddle later after shooting. Good roundhouse form on display for us viewers here.

Josh S

This guy up at Pangas found a nice left. He was easy to spot with his big, bright blue board.

Josh S

The beach was really hot this morning! This guy did well to pig-dog on this hollow mini-right and find some shade.

Josh S

This guy got a nice right barrel here. I think this may have been one of the better waves I saw all morning. The crisp-offshore wind just opened this wave sufficiently for our surfer to tuck in underneath the lip just in the nick of time.

Josh S

Pangas doing its best to rival Colorados today! It almost looks like this guy could’ve got barreled on this one?

Josh S

I returned to the beach this afternoon to see how the conditions had changed with the tide push. It was definitely more rippable, but less hollow. These two guys enjoying a good party wave. If you zoom in you can see they are smiling and look to be having a good time, so I suspect they are buddies or part of the same group.

Lock & Load!

Boom! A big backside boost to close out Wednesday’s surf action. Gigante’s boats making a background cameo here as well.

Josh S

A few niños going to scope out the rocks which separate Colorados and Amarillo. The tides are extreme at the moment, which makes it possible to walk around the rocks to Amarillo at low tide. I’m a creature of convenience, so I’m happy to hang in Iguana, but this could be something worth scoping out at low tide if you are here on vacation. That’s all for today everyone, I hope you enjoyed some of the blue jolly-rancher tubes we received today! Tomorrow looks like it will be a bit smaller, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty of fun going on for the report :)
