Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Josh S

Howdy everyone! Welcome to a special Wednesday Surf Report. Sarah, a friend and client of mine, and I get to be the rockstars of my own report today haha!

Josh S

The surf was near flat and very windy at Colorados when I went down to surf this afternoon after my morning surf lessons. So the fail safe option came into play today… Have a secret super hero shoot me giving my last lesson of the day.

Josh S

At first I was a bit concerned with Sarah’s prospective wave count during the lesson given the side-shore wind. However if you stick around you’ll see my fears ended up being erroneous. I think Sarah caught more waves than most of the guys at Pangas LOL

Josh S

Alrighty, enough chit-chat! Now to the surf action. Sarah and I surfed a secret mysto-left peak I’ve been frequenting this past week, but we managed to capitalize on the rare right-hander here.

Josh S

The water was still a really unique emerald color even though it was a bit cloudy and the wind was funky.

Josh S

A perfect entry-level-intermediate left right here! I’ve lucked out with the micro swell for lessons this July haha. Sorry guys, but I pray for small waves secretly ;)

Josh S

Being a fellow goofy-foot, Sarah enjoys going left. She got plenty of long smooth rides through some reform sections this evening.

Josh S

Bigger + Steeper Wave + Plenty of Paddle Speed = Angled takeoff enabling an earlier and easier turn across the face.

Josh S

Leap Frog!!!

Josh S

Another good left here! I like what Sarah is doing here with her upper body and hands, but I see a wider stance being more beneficial for balance and shifting one’s weight back or forward.

Josh S

Sarah hit the ball out of the park during this evening’s coaching session, but nobody wins ‘em all. A good nose-dive every now and again builds character and keeps us humble haha ;) Props to her for committing to this reform, double-up drop though!

Josh S

I feel bad for my clients in the water… They probably get tired of hearing me yak for 1 hour straight haha! I’m probably chirping her up on finding her ready position and squeezing in a couple strokes before…

Josh S

A late drop! Sarah’s doing well to get one last glance over her shoulder as she’s sucking in her hands for lift-off. You’re also getting to witness my infamous “Right Arm of the Forbidden One” for you Yugioh connoisseurs out there. “My Grandpa’s deck has no pathetic cards Kaiba!”

Josh S

And Sarah stuck the late drop! Not only that, but she also managed to correct her slightly right-hand fade on the paddle line via a strong toe-side turn, albeit with a staggered stance (sorry I’m OCD and nitpick form haha).

Josh S

“Talk to the hand!” Haha. Her stance is staggered, but she still managed to engage the correct part of her toe-side rail here which enabled a nice mid-face ride.

Josh S

Swooping in for the finale ride of our sunset session. Sarah’s got her grrr face on here, so this wave’s in trouble!

Josh S

And it’s a success! Shifting over the toe-side rail en route to the sand for the grand finale! Keep those eyes up on the line you want to take though :)

Josh S

To close the report we have a couple of blurry frames from some mystery ripper. He managed to do an air at main peak in windy conditions which is very impressive.

Josh S

After sticking the air, he proceeded to rip his rail through the inside soft-corner section.

Josh S

Sunset horseback riding anyone? Yes, this Wednesday was still great, especially so if you’re a surfer who enjoys gentle waves! Now probably isn’t the absolute best time for me to mention that I’m a surf instructor here, as the swell is supposed to begin picking up tomorrow. However, if you are staying in Iguana and interested in learning to surf, receiving intermediate coaching, or lining-up video analysis then feel free to contact NSR about it and they’ll put you in touch with me. Thanks for checking in amigos and I hope you can see the glass-half full side of this “flat” July we’ve had here!
