Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, July 08, 2023

Josh S

Howdy everyone! Welcome to Saturday’s surf report from Colorados. It was another day of really fun waves, but not quite as epic as yesterday’s surf.

Josh S

The rights have been hollower than the lefts above mid-tide, with the lefts taking the limelight below mid-tide. Mr. Hulk (green shirt) did well to tuck into this nice medium sizer.

Josh S

The allure of the river-mouth right captivated our surfers today. This young fella skating under the curtain in front of the beach club.

Josh S

This was one of the better waves I saw this morning. These rights offer a unique view in the morning when the lip is thick, but the crisp wind is grooming the lip, which gives it a unique texture as it encircles you.

Josh S

This guy traveled a long ways on this one. You wouldn’t be able to tell from this image (mid-sequence), but the river-mouth rights extend and accelerate as they approach the beach.

Josh S

There were still a few fun lefts out there this morning, but I feel like they didn’t get that hollow or fast until the tide drained more later in the morning.

Josh S

Even though the tide was mid, there was still the occasional bout of backwash. Our pink board rider did well to anticipate the backwash bounce mid-barrel and adjusted his line appropriately to find the exit.

Josh S

As the size gradually declines, you’ll observe a higher turn to tube ratio on the report. Mr. Hulk appears to have dropped his wallet!

Josh S

The river-mouth rights are fun and entertaining because you always feel as if you are right at the exit and will make it, but you never know for sure until you approach the end of the wave and it is about to shutdown. This peak is the most deceitful, faster than it appears from the inside, of all the peaks across the beach.

Josh S

This poor wave got slashed to bits! And anybody sitting behind this wave got a free shower!

Josh S

The judges love a good combo! This guy placed up high with our best tube rides today in my opinion. Speed, power, flow, and flirting with exceptional risk by dropping his lead hand so low to the water along with his bum and heels.

Josh S

This young grommie did well to hit the breaks hard after a steep drop! He just checked up and into the tube, then sat patiently over his back foot while waiting for the lip to catch up.

Josh S

Alright, alright. The lefts by this stage of the photo session were starting to open up more.

Josh S

If you didn’t get enough wave porn yesterday, then I’ll go ahead and drop some more for you :)

Josh S

This might’ve been the wave of the morning. It’s a shame nobody was patiently waiting way outside for this set.

Josh S

To close out today’s report, we have another nice combo executed on a left by Mr. Hulk.

Josh S

He reaped a lot of style points for his turns (keeping his lead hand so close to the nose/deck of his board + Rooster Tail sprays), but I think the goofy-footer in blue probably beat him by a point.

Josh S

That’s all of Saturday’s action folks! Thank you again for checking in and following along with our good to epic conditions the past few days. Tomorrow is forecasted to be a little smaller, and Tony Z is back on the report. Pop back in tomorrow to see what conditions and flavor TZ brings our way!
