Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, April 26, 2018

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone, this is Baldo reporting from Santana beach. The waves have been great the last few days... but the country has been going through very difficult times the last week.

Javier Baldovinos

I want to dedicate this report to the students that lost their life fighting for their ideals, protesting and demanding for a change, for a better future… these losses have united Nicaraguans into one goal: To Reach Peace in a peaceful and democratic way.

Javier Baldovinos

What happened last week felt like a big swell that everyone was waiting for, but it came suddenly without any warnings (the buoys didn’t report anything!), surprising everyone, bigger than expected, no one was ready!

Javier Baldovinos

The first few days were loud and messy, waves breaking hard on the rocks, pounding in every direction, everywhere… people paddling for their life.

Javier Baldovinos

But the people got together to support each other, “United we can” and “We are not afraid” they screamed, and together they paddled hard, duck-diving through the big waves.

Javier Baldovinos

A lot of the people got injured, taken by the waves, even gone forever. They won't be forgotten.

Javier Baldovinos

You can go left or right, but we are a country and we shouldn’t fight each other like that, ever! Together we can make a change!

Javier Baldovinos

Together we can make of this beautiful beach an even better place, a place where everyone can have a voice and that voice can be respected by everyone.

Javier Baldovinos

A beach without corrupted, bad people. Where health, education and justice are our priorities.

Javier Baldovinos

Now the rough waters have calmed down. It’s time to think, analyze, plan for the future. It’s time to figure out how to let the Peace come back and stay forever.

Javier Baldovinos

We all need to sit down and talk what's going on. Everyone should be aware of our past, everyone should know the truth about this big swell and everyone should care about the future.

Javier Baldovinos

If we all put our grain of sand together, we can create the beautiful beach we all want, it will take long, but we can do it, we will do it!

Javier Baldovinos

After we all agree on the changes to be made, and stablish the right tools to make it happen, like calibrating our buoys in a better way, no other big swell will appear and surprise us on the horizon.

Javier Baldovinos

And if the buoys detect another swell in the future, we’ll have those said tools ready and we’ll be able to smack the lips of those creating that swell before they even know it.

Javier Baldovinos

The only waves we need to have are the ones that everyone is happy to ride and share, with good real options to choose from.

Javier Baldovinos

All the population need to find and pick the right line, where we want our country to go, and stick to that line until we come out of the tunnel, until we all succeed as a whole.

Javier Baldovinos

In the mean time, the surf season it’s just starting and the waves are pumping. Again, all this happened mostly in Managua, here on the beach everything has been normal, the only thing you need to be afraid of is to not go over the falls.

As you might already know, Nicaraguans are super friendly and peaceful people, we just explode every few decades when something is not going right.

¡¡ARRIBA NICARAGUA!!
