Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, February 18, 2024

Josh S

Hi everyone! Welcome to Sunday’s surf report from Panga Drops main peak. The crowd was pretty thin at mid-day. Dario dominated the photography window. We lucked out with some very light wind today.

Dario must’ve seen my recent report where I was hyping up the extra long board shorts as he whipped out a pair of them today. +Reputation points. Some speed and power on display from Dario here on his new favorite board.

Josh S

The signature Dario front-side layback carve on the long-board. I think he is pretty much a shoe-in to first place in this year’s Chompipe Open Longboard contest.

Josh S

Eren Yeager? The rumbling? Haha deep-lore reference. Pretty rare to see groups of this size hiking the beach in unison. Hey, there was plenty of space for them out there!

The lady with Dario Rippario displaying a calm and composed style on a solid left set for today’s wave-size.

Alright, now it’s time for my personal highlight of the day. Dario is innovating the art of expression long-boarding too.

Josh S

I couldn’t understand what I was watching while shooting this sequence. Did Dario drop something he was wearing like his watch or something?

Josh S

Ahhhh, so this in an intentional maneuver. Well it’s something I’ve never seen before.

Josh S

He pretty much completed this unique, break-dance move. I guess he was still fired up from the dance-floor last night! (Assuming he was out for a night on the town.)

Josh S

He was hemorrhaging speed after completing the spin-move, so he had to reset back to prone for a moment to click back into the wave.

Josh S

And he’s back up. That was a completion in my book. After shooting this wave, I had to pause for a moment to process what Dario just did on the wave haha. Truly next level style and unique flare from Dario. I don’t even know what to call the break-dance move?

Josh S

The cheater five. Very functional, but gets a tough rep for not being a complete hang-five. I love to do cheater fives on steep, but clean waves. You can just jet-propel forward without having to compress or extend.

Josh S

The one decent wave I saw at Spot X…

It doesn’t get any better than light wind and slightly warmer water in February! Dario looks equally satisfied to me upon getting a taste of today’s excellent conditions. To finish your Sunday with a smile… Probably means you’re doing things right! Well this wraps up today’s surf report. Tomorrow the evil wind is projected to return, but I’m hoping we will still have a light-wind window tomorrow morning. Take it easy y’all.
