Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Hello everybody and welcome to the NSR report with Parker! The waves are bad but we have an epic contest to show you so definitely click "read more!!!"

At a recent poker night, Golden Bear looked at our meager surf forecast and suggested a soft top competition. One thing lead to another and the two of us, in conjunction with Iguana Player's Club, hosted the first annual soft top competition. Thank you for the idea and help Patricio!

First up: Mr. Scoops and Spokes himself, Hayden Bell. He topped off the event with some genuine Kiwi style. The judges would have scored higher if his icecream shop made some Toasted Marshmellow for the day.

Vanas (right) heard about the big news and made an early flight for the event. Side note: the judges gave extra points for dropping in.

But that doesn't mean you won't pay the prices... Don Pedro lashing back and making Vanas swim for his board. Show the rookies how it's done!!!

Don Pedro followed that up with a nice backsider. The judges rewarded his throw and tubito combo with a 9.5.

But Vana brought some smooth Southern Californian style to today's event. The free tacos afterwards helped him score a 9.0 on this wave.

Errrrrrrr!!!! The alarm went off and we blew the horn to end the first 15 minute heat. Party wave to close out the heat!!

Scores are in and the judges are preparing the results... We initially told the judges to grade us on flow, power, speed, and style. We quickly changed that to "whatever is most entertaining!"

Carlos Caliente made his debut in heat #2. He had plenty of tricks up his sleeve (or something like that) to please the crowds.

Hawaiian legend Duke Kahanamoku, AKA El Codo Lopez, was ready to show off the goods in this heat. He represented the locals with style and power.

Unfortunately, Tyler Cooper (no official nick name yet) leaves us in a few days. We were stoked to some him what this community is about: fun group events that bring everybody together (or demolish others and send them home crying after brutual competition).

Let's talk about "job security." But remember, the judges award extra points for burning. The judges gave Codo a 10 for robbing the NSR owner and capping it off with a taunt. Yeah Codo!!! I mean... sorry Carlos Caliente... you got the next one!!!

Hot Karl represented NSR with some serious style and grace. Thank you for hooking it up and supplying the foamies for today!!

When Golden Bear and I invited him, we did not know he is talented longboarder. He whipped out a 360 (and a little more) so the judges may give him a handicap at the next competition.

We are a surf report so back to business... The waves are small, the wind is good, and it's beautiful outside. Expect similiar conditions until a small weekend bump arrives (with possible onshores).

Onto heat 3! Jib made his professional surfing debut so check out his sequence!

There isn't one guy in this community who doesn't love him (or his pizzas). Jib going all in on this tubito.

Yeah Jib!!! That shampoo/wax job earned you a 10 from the judges!!

Because style and barrels were already covered, Hotstick Hannahs tried to show off some power and flow. It did not go as planned but we blame the Wavestorm...

Villas Iguana owner Greg Bailey introduced Hotstick Hannahs to Miki "Da Cat" Dora after his heat. It's possible Greg was making a valid comparison.

There are four things going on in this photo. 1. Hot Karl looking to seal his score with another 10. 2. Hotstick Hannahs going for the burn to get a photo with his boss (wearing matching shorts). 3. Golden Bear slipping into the barrel. 4. And Aurita setting up for a sick nose ride (scroll down).

Yewww!!! Representing the ladies. She was shredding in style all morning!

Quick intermission before we head into the finals. Meanwhile, the next generation of soft top slayers were practicing in the pool. Judah, we expect big things from you soon primito!!

Back to business (or whatever we came for). When you come from long Californian points, Cooper had some style to show off on these rolling rights.

Tony4/7 (left) showed up just in the nick of time before the finals started. Our response: grab a board, get out there, and make it funny!!!

It's funny though... A couple years ago, Turbo showed up to Surfari Charter's Thanksgiving competition and Turbo immediately hopped in the line up. For two weeks, Tony4/7 consistently "reminded him" about showing up and joining the finals (for the record, Turbo got an earful for another two years). But, you know, today's competition was totally different, Tony4/7 showed up in a totally different manner, and the situations were totally different, right???

Cooper backed up Turbo and took Tony4/7's situation into his own hands. We're good now, but we still like to rag on Turbo.

Here is Pig Dog (left) and The Chosen Juan (right). Check out their brotherly rivalry over this next sequence.

Go back to the previous photo. Did you see how The Chosen Juan's fins were out and he took off on the wave with a backwards board?

And he nailed the rotation!!! Pig Dog: 0, The Chosen Juan: 1.

The crowd cheered and we thought all was over. All of a sudden, Pig Dog nailed a turn and stuck the floater!!! Pig Dog: 2, The Chosen Juan: 1. #harffff

Besides, The Chosen Juan was already crushing the final so Vanas and Cooper had to gang up on him. Unfortunately for him, this wasn't the first time he got tackled off his board.

All behold the trick of the day!!! Don Chele (front) and Vanas (back) were sharing a wave until Don Chele jumped onto his board. The two shared the wave tandem until the shorebreak. Water photography, left points, and tandem rides, Tony4/7 does it all!!

Before we wrap up today's competition and reveal the winners, we want to thank today's sponsors. Thank you to Flor de Cana, NSR, Miller Lite, and the FSLN for sponsoring today's show!! Without your lavish support, today would not have been possible.

Upon exiting the water, The Chosen Juan received his first beer shower by his Dad, Jib. We didn't have to tally the results to know he won. Watch out John John... A new world champion is emerging out of Nicaragua.

The final results: 1st place: The Chosen Juan, 2nd place: Pig Dog, and Best Trick: Tony4/7. The prizes respectively were a 12 pack of Tona (donated to a legal aged drinker: his Dad) and a cans of Hunts tomato sauce, 12 rolls of 1 ply Scott's toilet paper, and the October 2016 issue of SURFING Magazine. Congrats to all the contestants and the winners! Thank you to everybody who made it out and to our audience for checking out today's report. We hope you enjoyed our shenanigans. Hasta en la manana y Hotstick Hannahs is out!!!
