Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, October 23, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone, welcome to Monday’s surf report from Santana beach, Nicaragua. The waves are smaller and the onshore is back (might be for a few days) but here at Santana the surf is still relatively good.

Peaks like this were breaking most of the time and with just a few local surfers having fun with them.

As always, the lefts were the best ones, longer and steeper, great for vertical maneuvers like this one.

From afar I saw this kid playing with a bodyboard at the rivermouth so I decided to go check it out.

When I got closer I saw that there were a whole group of kids playing in the water, letting the tide push them upstream while floating in their bodyboards.

They were swimming, running and jumping from the banks.

This kid wanted to show off his skills in front of the camera so he jumped over his friends into the water.

Javier Baldovinos

Looks like he needs to practice his landings first!

The process of cleaning the beach is still coming little by little. Here are the Rancho Santana workers moving the last bit of trash and debris away from the sand.

There is still one big tree trunk where the beach used to be, on the inside of first peak so, if you are around be careful with it.

You can see on this picture that the wind was more like sideshore making the surf not that bad.

The rights were shorter than the lefts but still the take off was sometimes difficult. This kid is semi-airdropping it and ready to make some turns.

Javier Baldovinos

Talking about rights… there is this tiny little right that wraps around the new sandbar that looks amazing, it just need like 3 more feet to become surfable.

Don’t forget that the Spanish Book Drive still is underway! One of the many losses for the local community was over 3,000 Spanish children's library books. This is a devastating loss for everyone, especially for the many kids who would frequent the library after school to check out books or get help with homework. If you would like to help, here is a link to the Amazon wish list that has been created to help refill the shelves or feel free to look for other Spanish books: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2XPKWYRGI559Q/ref=cm_sw_em_r_d_g__wf

Please email Heather at [email protected] for a US shipping address where Spanish book donations can be delivered.

In the meantime, we are using one of CREA’s rooms as a collection point for donations. A group of volunteers when this morning to separate clothing and organize a little bit better the whole room.

Javier Baldovinos

The room looks way better, now it should be easier to find all the different items we’ve been collecting for donations. Thank you guys for your help! Three of the volunteers are professional Chiropractors and they will be giving free adjustments to the community on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Las Salinas. I will definitely need one adjustment after all this donation loading and unloading!
