Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, August 21, 2022

Brian Scott

Hola familia, bienvenidos al aviso Sunday Funday de surf! B-Ri back with the close off weekend update. So those onshore winds that’s predicted for the next week or so. . . yesterdays mega side shore south / southwest side winds totally blew out all the barrels and it went completely crumble factory by about noon or so, so that’s why I jammed down super early this morning in hopes to maybe catch some decent waves/surf before those onshore potentially had already came in. To my surprise it was completely sheet glass out there and although our super big and really fun giant surf finally dwindled it’s way back down to our normal 3-4 w/occasional 5 footers; I’d have to say it’s already starting to turn out to be a pretty amazing Sunday! Enjoy ~

I’d say 85% of the worlds surf population would agree, this is about the size (and conditions) that they would take ALL DAY everyday all year long. Which is kinda what this place is practically known for more than 3/4 of the year.

The last week was all stand up barrels, now people have get used to ducking and hunkering down a little more than the last few days. But there’s still some girth to that there lip. So decapitation still needs to be taken with slight heed to with every wave taken and pulled into!

Too early for Sunday? Just us land and water fotogs looking for some content support.

If you saw yesterdays mid afternoon waves, you’d be trippin’ on seeing how clean, glassy and fun it was out there this morning.

Brian Scott

It actually looked like this yesterday morning, but quite a bit bigger.

Trestles…. naaahh, just Nica-Landia!

Brian Scott

But could very easily pass as a shot from there this morning, I am sure, since this time of year the conditions there try their best to impersonate this Latin America slice of paradise.

Fun Nica fact #246869665421111. Did you know the inventor of the McRib from "Mickey D's" is a long time expat surfer who has been coming to Nicaragua for decades. He was inspired to invent the MicRib, when he would always see this here, the ever so inconspicuous wave witht the ripples coming up the wave faces…. otherwise known as the the Nic-Rib! (***On and Ed side note, you shouldn’t always believe everything you read, especially when using Google!) Jajaja

Da true and purest of forms of the Classic Nicaraguan “Sunday Funday” all wrapped up in these next 3 images.

Well, as that sun finally made it’s way over the mountain cliffs splitting our favorite beach here and Playa Amarillo on the other side, this young worker (even though it’s Sunday) he’s still getting out there early and making his morning commute via his bicicleta; that which he walked a good quarter mile carrying it across all this sharp dragon type reef rocks around the headland. Ahhhhh what a life it is to live here. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and weekend amigos!!! Chao ~
