Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, August 18, 2021

Brian Scott

Howdy folks and welcome to the “hump day” surf report. Well, it couldn’t be more appropriately named for today as that new energy that came in over night (along with that pretty nutso rainstorm) definitely showed up this morning with some pretty big humps and lumps out there. Check it out!

I got down there just around when I thought the tide was going to be perfect, but like I often do, I got a message from some visiting friends who said they were already down there, and it was big. Like as in really BIG.

Brian Scott

So of course at got me down there ASAP!

Brian Scott

And as much as this photo says it was big and perfect and (more oddly) uncrowded. I watched a few sets roll through and realized why.  However this was probably the most perfect wave I saw at least while I was down there shooting.

Brian Scott

So let’s get into how it really looked and what was going on out there. Well for starters, this and or was the only crowd that was out.

Brian Scott

Tegan here, on a WELL overhead frothing super fast sand infused washing machine looking beast a barrel. When he came in he asked if I happen to get any of him in any of the…. as he put it “filthy looking brown growlers out there”? Well, here ya go buddy!

Brian Scott

Here’s an equally menacing looking beast…. but if you wanna see what just about every wave was doing check out the next slide (of the same wave)!

Brian Scott

OUCH!!!!! BUT man that view must have been spectacular!!!! And worth every pound of the beating that poor kid took!

Brian Scott

The interval was crazy. Super fast with A LOT of energy out there today!

Brian Scott

And if.. that’s “if” you stuck the drop, because these waves were roping in super fast…

Brian Scott

You had better make it under that lip pronto! Because as you can see how hick those caverns out there were throwing, and I mean, like Mike Tyson TKO to the head punches if you got caught by one of those lips!

Brian Scott

Nope! and that’s why the crowd was so thin…. and thinning quickly right when I got down there.

Brian Scott

Lot’s of this..

Brian Scott

and this…. but I gotta give these dudes credit for hucking themselves over the ledges of some of these bombs!

Brian Scott

The look, not necessarily of defeat, but just plain, downright exhausted. Oh, I forgot to mention the current alone looked tiring even just watching from the beach.

Brian Scott

Looking up the ways towards the reef, it looks like D-man made the right call and was out there with the whole lineup all to himself, and trust me when I say, it most definitely is way bigger than it looks from here where I shot this. Hope you enjoyed todays big and unruly hump day of a report. Hopefully tomorrows conditions will calm down a little bit, but we’ll see. I can hear the thundering waves right now just outside my house, and I’m a good mile from the beach.

Yewwwww - hope mañana is firing ~
