Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, August 17, 2020

Brian Scott

Magic Monday morning out there… Again! Waves continued to be epic for the morning time surf sesh. Had some fresh new arrivals recently, so they’ve been mixing it up sharing waves with all the locals, which is also nice to see some new faces out in the lineup. Click that “read more” button to see how good it was!

Brian Scott

That girl is on Fiiiiyah!!!…. YES, that girl, who happens to be Erin Brooks. You may have seen that clip of her absolutely ripping at the WACO wave park not too long ago that blew up the internet. Nicaragua’s becoming closely up there in rank with where she might call one of her favorite “Surfing Homes”.

Brian Scott

Clean and super fun conditions, especially with some pretty amazing light and beautiful nice weather that seemed to get better and better with the tide filling in this morning.

Brian Scott

I’m sure you’ve all heard that phrase, “like father, like son”. Well, If you haven’t already seen who’s been gracing our lineup the last couple of days, it would be the legendary Mr. Shane Dorian… and to go with that phrase I mentioned….

Brian Scott

His super talented son, Jackson here looking like he’s following in his papas footsteps just fine! Bienvenido de nuevo amigos!!!

Brian Scott

Of course, anytime we have some special professional surfing guests here, it’s always a treat to see how they lay down their own paint on their Nicaraguan canvas.

Brian Scott

Shane’s masterpiece for his trip is just in the first stages. I’m sure you’re going to see a pretty good “work in progress” over the next few weeks!

Brian Scott

Lucas giving us a mighty fine example of the cleanliness of the water texture out there today.

Brian Scott

Not to mention the clarity as well. Looking super aqua-green, which is partially how this place got it’s famous name, the Emerald Coast.

Brian Scott

Emi, getting all wrapped up in one Emerald Coast gem!

Brian Scott

Out the back….?? Ya, there were still a few mini-bombs to be had out there.

Brian Scott

I think Derek has this wave so dialed in, the next exotic surf spot he heads to after the airlines open back up, it’s going to be like he left his home break of what feels like 15 years.

Brian Scott

Hey Alex (Quadra), would this be considered a chartered flight? Maybe you can grant Carlos de Colorados some special landing privileges??? He’s definitely eye level with some of the drones!!!! Jajaja

Brian Scott

Well if it isn’t John “3 hour surf sessions are for pansies” Gillem. Ya you heard it right. John’s been surfing his melon off and he doesn’t have any plans of slowing down since the waves are supposed to be in the good to FIRING range until the end of the month. Sick one buddy!

Brian Scott

Surfing has always been about soul or style. Well, it’s up there in the top list of reasons why you should a be surfer at least.

Brian Scott

Good thing Derek has practiced this his whole life. You can’t fake either!

Brian Scott

Yeaaaaaah Phi-Lou! You’re one heck of a stealthy surfer. Always stoked when I pan over and I see it’s you. Where the heck do you come from out of the jungle every time? Tan astuto con tu sigilo!!!

Brian Scott

Mystery barrel surfer…?? Haha - Come on… REALLY??? Need I even ask?

Brian Scott

Ok… two for two??? I’ll give you a hint. It’s a chica!

Brian Scott

Three for three??? Nah…. J/K, this is Mateo Blevins, slotted AGAIN!

Brian Scott

I’m not sure if you can see it clearly, but if you zoom in you can see Erin’s face completely lit up with smiles! This fits her to a “T” happy to be surfing, happy about life and everything around her! World Champ one day characteristics. ABSOLUTELY!

Brian Scott

Hey Emi, so stoked to see you back out there surfing like a gremmy again.

Brian Scott

You should be a spokesperson for PRP!!!! Ripping out there every single day!

Brian Scott

If these waves look like this tomorrow again, I promise to forgive July!!!! I promise!!!!

Brian Scott

Hayden might forgive July too… but he’s not focused on that right now.

Brian Scott

He was focused on that lip and what he really wanted to do to it.

Brian Scott

Josh out there in the mix too. It was actually quite crazy out there as the lineup had about three properly working peaks with the occasional sneaker sets in-between each one of those as well. So you can imagine how sore my neck is from the last couple of days, it’s been like watching an insane tennis match being played between three different courts… all at once!

Brian Scott

Nico in the middle court and going for the grand slam! Or well, I really don’t play tennis, so what is it called when you completely smash the ball into your opponents grill? Yah, it was like that!

Brian Scott

It’s kinda hard choosing just a couple of the best frames of a sequence like this, especially when it’s one of the best surfers in the world.

Brian Scott

Like in snowboarding and even skating, they have a way to judge the highest airs with measuring poles that reach 20+ feet above the lips of the halfpipes of both respected sports. I wish in surfing there were a way to gauge the spray in a similar manner.

Brian Scott

Guaranteed, we have some surfers here who could give him a run for his money with their locally dialed abilities of hack sprays. But this one is certainly that of a well seasoned and otherwise professionally well trained wave killer.

Brian Scott

We had some of the funnest most perfect dreamy like barreling waves out there today.

Brian Scott

And we had some pull in and take your poundings sorts as well. One thing’s for sure…. depending on the water color, it always makes it that much less painful.

Brian Scott

Just another great day of surfing in mid August. Just let all those other things melt away for at least an hour, right?

Brian Scott

Betcha didn’t know the Nicaraguan coast had a Formula 1 race track did’ya??? Well, neither did I until I saw Shane-O on this pretty much un-makable right.

Brian Scott

Here’s the brake check at the first quarter mile!!!

Well, there you have it folks. It was a doozy of a lot of surf shots to look through today, but that’s a given when we have epically fun waves, some new faces in the lineup (which this place hasn’t really seen for over 5 months) and all the elements come together like it did for everyone today. That being said, I’ll be back out there again tomorrow. Hope to see you out there… if not surfing, at least watching all the stoke going down! See ya mañana ~
