Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, July 14, 2019

Hello everybody and happy Sunday Funday to you! Parker here checking in with some shots from the reef. Take your Monday morning easy and check out today’s pumping waves.

Needless to say that the swell filled in. Actually we saw some beefy sets out front yesterday afternoon. That gave us all evening to plan today!

After we saw shots of Teahupoo (did you see Raimana’s wave?!?!) we sorta kinda maybe already knew we’d get some solid surf here. Well, enjoy today’s report as much as we enjoyed surfing!

This sequence is of Mark Healy. We’re stoked to see big names flying in to score epic waves- you should come down too!!

Slotted!! People do say this wave is sort of like Pipe- just not nearly as perfect. I wonder what Mark would say.

Showing up to see that wave didn’t need more convincing for Hot Carl. He’s on it!! Get some hombre!

And some he did get. He’s actually flying out for a quick trip tomorrow so he was super, super stoked to get out there today. He said “yeah, I can’t fly out tomorrow and not go get some today.” Even if he wasn’t flying out, he should still go get some!

I’ve seen him get spat out of the inside bowl section a few times. Does your boss rip as hard as mine? Probably not.

These are the days we live for… strong swell, light offshore (at this point), and just the locals and big names trading waves outside.

Marsh Gregory was the hombre that snagged this bomb. Him and his brother have this wave dialed! Unfortunately, we were just pulling up when Auggie caught “the best barrel” he has ever had out there.

Kai rolled up on the 2 Bros boat and got some too. Here is his big turn but his dad said he got a tube earlier. Kai and I have talked about this wave for a couple seasons so to hear that he crushed it today makes us so stoked. Congrats dude!!

Here’s a question for: which of the three position do you want to be in? We can probably eliminate the lobster diver. Do you want to take the reef left or the rubber duckies left?

Well, we want to make sure those backside chargers get the props they deserve. With the windy takeoff, the ledgy drop, and your back to the wave, it can be tricky. Stino here showing us how to PACK one in a pig dog.

I recommend not staring too long: you’ll either froth/immediately get down here or overthink it. Carl here can attest that it’s a total head game out there- one that he has mastered.

If we are going to talk about chargers, Manny’s name needs to be thrown in that hat. Him, JJ, and Trin make this wave look like a playful beach break and thread the needle so well.

Sometimes the playful beach break” bites back…

This wave can’t be talked about without sharing some love to Lance Moss as well. First, those Surfari boys and guests always put on a good show here. Additionally, they run point on safety with their ski. When the bad falls inevitably happen, they are the ones to scoot in and scoop them out. Thank y’all for all that you do to make this wave halfway safe!

Speaking of fun people to surf with, this photo is dedicated to you Eric!!

When I see bottom turns here, I sort of have mixed feelings. Aren’t we looking for a tube?

With Marsh’s powerful surfing, we know he will blast the wave apart. Hey, if there isn’t a barrel section (like here), big turns here can be cool too!

If you want to avoid the gnarly wave and blast waves apart, do all your turns on the other three waves here! Plenty of friendly options to enjoy.

Alright y’all, one last sequence to show you. And I’m going to save it for a backside charger (like I said, props to those guys!).

Completely covered up. But let’s point out those boils. Oooffff…

Clean exit! But let’s look at the inside section.. Pick your waves carefully- you need to know what’s going on there. Your options are A. a perfect tight tube B. dry reef or C. a kick flip onto dry reef.

I’ll show you one more beefy looking left. We had a fun more surfing the entire incoming with lots of great waves and a few nasty ones as well. I’m sure those who got the dropping tide also scored!

Alright damas and caballeros, time to wrap this report up. We have a Sunday afternoon to enjoy and we need to get back in the water for some more waves! We hope y’all have a good start to the week and continue to stay tuned to watch this swell play out. Nos vemos!!
