Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, July 12, 2008

Welcome to the Saturday surf report. This is Roberto “Lucha Libre” and Mateo “Pledge” bringing you the action from the Popoyo surf contest today. There was a lot of competition in the water today. We have a bunch of surfers competing for the win here. The waves were fun as well. It was running chest to shoulder high with some head high. Check out the action!

Zamir was out there tying to maintain his title as the winner of the Popoyo contest. Here he is with a fast front side slash. He has some really tuff competition for his semi final because he is surfing against “La Bestia” and “La Baloy”.

Rex “La Bestia” Calderon was out there surfing really well. He has to surf pretty hard to maintain his title as number one in Nicaragua. Here he is with one of his round house cutbacks.

Norwin “Chullin” Estrella was having a great time today. He surfed his way through both the Juniors and the Open. We hope you can make it to the finals tomorrow afternoon.

He had a lot of people getting their drink on going Matthew McConaughey style. The Upper left shot we got Baldo enjoying the presence of the Flor de Cana at the contest. The upper right photo you can see the Flor de Cana salesman passed out at eight am. Maybe he was not selling enough so for promoting he decided to partake himself. Bottom left we got “Pledge” up there taking in some beverage before his heat to help him advance. Nice strategy….. Finally we got some of our friends from Quebec who are loving it down here in Nicaragua.

Here is a shot of our San Juan del Sur boys. A lot of our guys did really well and advanced to surf tomorrow.

We don’t want to leave out the Limon boys (the locals at Santana). A lot of them did really good as well making for some good competition tomorrow.

The waves were fun today, but we were more excited about all the ladies on the beach today. Here is just a few of them who came out to support the surfers. Thanks ladies, you definitely made all boys want to surf harder.

We also had Roldolfo “Calibilly” Villareal who was out there trying to make it to the finals again. Here he is on one of his lefts that carried him to the semi finals.

Mario “El Danino” Martinez was out there surfing real hard trying to show everyone why he is ranked within the top three. “El Danino” his brother Junior “La Juliana”, and Melkis “El Buitre”, all boys from Limon, advanced to surf tomorrow.

Augusto “La Gaviota” Chamorro was out there surfing really hard and fast. Here he is just blowing up on this right with a solid front side lip hit.

Luis “La Baloy” Chamorro, the previous contest winner, was out there surfing super good. “La Baloy” and Rex “La Bestia” are racing neck and neck for the number one position on the Nicaragua national team. So he has his hands full for tomorrows’ heats.

Larry “Carita de Venado” Davila is shown he on his heat winning wave with a nice front side smack. He caught this wave right off the bat and didn’t even need another wave to advance. Although he did catch a few more which helped him win this heat.

Joel “El Capullo” Chavez, who is only 12 years old making his way to the semi finals tomorrow in the junior division. Hey Rex, we think we found someone to fill your shoes in two years when you graduate from the Juniors division.

The last shot of the day goes to our good friend Darwin “El Brujo” Jacamo had a great time today surfing with his Nicaraguan friends, progressing in both the Juniors and the Open division. Check back tomorrow to see what happens in the finals. We should have some really good competition and the waves should be about the same. Peace!
