Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, July 01, 2020

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone, this is Baldo with today's report. As always, I try to mix it up a bit every Wednesday and show you some of the other breaks in the area, we don't want to bore you with all those Colorado barrels!

Javier Baldovinos

First I checked Santana beach... there was nobody around, only a big log floating right in front of first peak.

Javier Baldovinos

With the last few days of big tides and big waves, the rivermouth has been flowing nonstop, the waves even get across the sandbar.

Javier Baldovinos

With no one around at Santana I went to another spot, and on the way there I spotted this beautiful bird of prey resting on a tree... does anyone know what kind of bird is? If you know, please send me an email to [email protected], I'm always curious about the flora and fauna around us!

Javier Baldovinos

I went to the next surf break over to the north, the great Popoyo!

Javier Baldovinos

The waves were kind of messy, with a lot of current that affected the shape of the waves.

Javier Baldovinos

There were only a handful of surfers in the water fighting the current to be in the right spot to catch the waves.

Javier Baldovinos

Some of them were having a very difficult time to find the right spot for the take off.

Javier Baldovinos

But once you got in the right spot, it was as fun as always!

Javier Baldovinos

Check it this late drop directly into the barrel! He managed to hold the line and survive both the drop and the barrel.

Javier Baldovinos

... and finished the wave on the fat, mushy section with a small turn.

Javier Baldovinos

Of course, everyone was aiming for the long lefts, focusing on the rail work and big, round turns.

Javier Baldovinos

After a few snaps on the lip then come a few cutbacks.

Javier Baldovinos

With the tide getting low fast, the reef started to show all its sharp edges and ridges... and a few extra peaks that we don't reccommend to try, unless your ready to shed some skin.

The waves should be better tomorrow, I hope July it's better for everyone! Cheers!
