Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, June 25, 2006

We'd like to thank all the folks who have contributed to sending the first Nicaraguan National Surf Team to compete in Costa Rica next month. Most of these guys have never left their home break and now they will be traveling together to another country to compete for the first time as "Team Nicaragua". Good stuff! There are still some kids waiting to see if they will get sponsored (it costs $285 to send each person) so if you can spare a few dollars it would really mean a lot to one of these guys. Email us at info@nicaraguasurfreport if you'd like to help. Thanks again! In the meantime, check out the festivities going on in San Juan Del Sur - This is the hotdog eating contest. What's in a Nica hotdog you might ask? You don't want to know, believe me.

The waves have been so good the last week that it's safe to say we are a bit surfed out. It's still head high and offshore but it's tough to find the motivation to do it right now. Give us a couple of days rest and we'll be back in the groove.

For all you beginners out there - here's a great example of what NOT to do. This wave belongs to the guy who is the deepest, in this case, the longboarder. The guy on the shoulder ended up not going but take a look at what he did to the wave. He practically closed out a section and ruined the wave for the longboarder guy and he probably thought he was being nice by pulling out. Here's the deal - If a guy is paddling deeper than you, and he's got even the smallest chance of making it - don't even go for the wave. Don't paddled for it, don't look over the lip and definitely don't drop in. If you do this, you'll make the session better for everybody.

Sometimes when the planets align with the stars and the moon we get two rippers in the same photo. Today was one of those days.

Here's another fun game to try at home. First, stick a 30' post into the ground and cover it with grease. Next slam a bottle of rum with your friends and get them to help you climb up the thing. If you get to the top, I'll give you a case of Ron Plata - more rum (street value about $20). Oh, and please try not to fall, it's all pavement below. The San Juan Del Sur festival of saints continues.

Killer evening sky. Should I surf or just watch the clouds go by? Gotta love Nica. We've got fun swell forecast for next week or so - check back.
