Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, June 14, 2008

This is Roberto “Lucha Libre”, Jairo “Come Pan” Panic, and Mateo “Pledge” welcoming you to the Saturday surf report. We still had a little swell in the water today, but it was pretty inconsistent. It was running about chest to shoulder high with the occasional larger set and offshore wind. We went out there and got some fun waves so check it out!

Ricardo “Kelly Slater” is shown here with the first surfing shot of the day. This guy is pretty stoked that even after opening his new Italian restaurant, he still has plenty of time for the water. Congratulations on attaining the dream life!

Norwin “EL Chulin” Estrella was out there getting all the best set waves. Here he is working the face on this one with some true Nicaraguan power.

Here we have Esterelin “Chispero” taking off on a real fun looking right. “Chispero” has only been surfing for about six months and he is already ripping. Keep improving buddy!

This is our friend Alverto “Gallito”, who has been out of the water for a while, getting back into the swing of things. It was good seeing you out there today.

Lester “Coyotito” paddled out there today and got a bunch of fun waves. Here he is trying to get in on a little shack action on a fun looking left.

English-Today at the beach we spotted one of the cute local girls and thought we needed to get reacquainted with her. This is Karla who is from San Juan del Sur and she is 20 years old. She says that she feels like the luckiest girl in the world because she lives in such beautiful country. Karla said that her favorite place to eat here in San Juan is ‘Pozo’, when that put on the sushi nights with all fresh Nicaraguan fish. She also loves to go out and hang out with her friends at the local discoteca Sunset. She also told us that she wanted to learn how to surf, but only with the skillfully trained NSR surf instructors. It was nice talking to you Karla.

The last shot of the day we have “Pledge” just laying it out on this wave. Well we hope the waves pick up some more tomorrow, either way we will back with report. We’ll  see you then!

Alright today was a very exciting day because it was the first day of fourth annual  “El Dorado” fishing tournament down here in Nicaragua. We had a ton of visitors from everywhere come here to participate in this tournament. This is a shot of the loading dock at the end of the day showing just how many people showed up.

The first day of the tournament NSR was crushing it by catching a bunch of fish and one of the biggest Dorado of the day. Lance and his team at Surfari Charters, as expected, just killed it today. Hey caught the most Dorado and tagged and released two sailfish. Here is a shot of what their team came up with.

Alright well here is a shot of the catch of the day. It is a 200 pound speckled belly mullet with an orange garnish. It really was a long, tough day on the water and some peoples’ bodies handled it better than others. Stay strong buddy, we are only half way through!

These are just a few of the Flor De Cana ladies who wanted “Come Pan” and “Pledge” to take them out after the tournament. Sorry ladies we gotta fish in the morning, maybe next time. Our ladies here were actually boosting the moral of all the fishermen by giving away some cocktails.

Alright this is the official last shot of the day showing you San Juan del Sur from the loading docks. It was a good day a surf and a great day of fishing. The waves are going to pick up tomorrow and we got the rest of the tournament so be sure to check back!
