Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, June 13, 2010

Hi fellas, we are Lucha Libre and La Baloy bringing you the Sunday surf report from up here in Las Penitas-Leon, in the second and last day of our first surf contest in Nicaragua.  The conditions were pretty good in the morning, so the guys let the ladies go out first.  It was running about chest to head high on sets with light offshore winds in the morning and then switched to light onshore in the afternoon (which is normal in this area).  Check it out!!!

First at all we want to say thanks so much to all the people who made this possible, all the judges, sponsors and surfers.  Special thanks to La Baloy and El Cacaste for taking these pics for us.  Good job fellas!!!

All the categories were very tight in this event. We have many good surfers now that is very tough for the judges to name the winner.  It was also a hard work to all the people on the beach to name the most beautiful girl.  Hey lady, Chewy is still around for a few more days.

As we said before the all the categories were very tight, even the juniors.  We already know that Rex is the one to beat in this category but today he successfully finished every one of his heat at the first place.  You can see why on this shot!

The big revelation of this contest was Augusto “La Gaviota” Chamorro.  It is not a surprise for us because we all know that he has a good level and he keeps pushing himself every day.  Good for you my friend!

Let’s take this thing to the podium.  The girls had a pretty good day and they all had a blast out there.
1) Dunia “La Pinolera” Burgos (San Juan del Sur)
2) Ashley “La Cenicienta” Blaylock (San Juan del Sur)
3) Rosa “La Rikitiqui” Martinez (Limon-Tola)
4) Lindsey “La Pinguinita” Tennant (San Juan del Sur)

We didn’t have many longboarders in the first contest but we are sure that we are going to have more in the next one.
1) Oliver “El Monito” Solis (San Juan del Sur)
2) Jose “El Corage” Hernadez (San Juan del Sur)
3) Augusto “La Gaviota” Chamorro (San Juan del Sur)

We have many talent juniors right now but you now is always hard to beat “La Bestia”
1) Rex “La Bestia” Calderon (San Juan del Sur)
2) Uriel “La Papayita” Torrez (Popoyo)
3) Joel “El Capullo” Chavez (Astillero)
4) Gerson “La Larba” Barbosa (San Juan del Sur)

The main event (Open National) was also dominated by the San Juan del Sur crew.
1) Augusto “La Gaviota” Chamorro (San Juan del Sur)
2) Rex “La Bestia” Calderon (San Juan del Sur)
3) Oliver “El Monito” Solis (San Juan del Sur, who said he was too old for contests?)
4) Luis “La Baloy” Chamorro (San Juan del Sur)

At the end of the event, as usual the National Surf Federation made a raffle among all the contenders for the title.  This time the brand new board stayed home with one of the locals from Leon, that sounds pretty fare to us because now he has an opportunity to keep practicing and maybe he will be the next national surf champion sometime in the future.

We want to give a special shout out to our old friend Roque “Balboa” Calderon.  He donated one shortboard to be raffle among all the juniors participating in the contest less than 15 years old.  Here we have the happy Ramon Martinez well known as MONCHITO from Limon 2-Santana.  He was really stoked with his new board because he says now he is gonna kill it.  Thanks to all the people who made this possible one more time, hoping that we can keep pushing all these guys to become some good surfers and good people.
Lucha out!
