Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, June 13, 2008

Welcome to the Friday Surf Report.  Before we get started with today's surf shots, we wanted to post some shots sent to us by EBOSurfPhotos.  This week, Nicaragua went a little Hollywood on us.  First, Matthew McConaughy shows up on San Juan Del Sur and gets sloppy drunk every night and makes a complete fool out of himself (Really, this is true).  It was so bad that Jairo and the Pledge refused to take photos of him because they were so embarrassed.  Thanks for coming Matthew.  Meanwhile, we were stoked to host one of the best crews to ever show up in Nicaragua - Andy Irons, Corey Lopez, Freddy P. and Gregg Chisolm.  As you can imagine, the air was buzzing with talk of star "sightings".  It was interesting.  What was really cool, was to see these guys surf in person.  This is AI, busting a man-air.

Freddy P. brought a little HI flavor to Nicaragua and was having a blast trying to speak Pigeon-Spanish with the locals.  He was also destroying the waves.

Corey Lopez is a repeat visitor to Nicaragua.  Last fall he scored epic waves and decided to give it a repeat with a new crew.  Here he is busting loose, FL Style!

Last but certainly not least, we've got Gregg Chisolm from Maui.  Gregg was overheard saying "fish tacos, I love fish tacos"...and then he suddenly disappeared for two days.  This shot shows he's still in Nicaragua and still ripping.  Keep up the good work Gregg.  And big thanks to Erin for sending in these shots!  Today's surf report coming up next...

Alright, and now the waves for today we have Roberto “Lucha Libre”, Jairo “Come Pan” Panic, and Mateo “Pledge” reporting in. There was a lot to do at the beach today. You could do surf lessons, practice your style on the long board, or just get some decent waves. The waves were running about waist to chest high with offshore wind. Check and see what we got.

Rodolfo “Calibilly “ was out there getting some fun waves. Here he managed to gather enough speed to get a little vertical on us.

Luis “La Baloy” Chamorro is caught here taking off on one of the better looking waves. I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that “La Baloy” is pretty hungry for that approaching lip.

This is Angelo “La Rosita” on a smaller left, but he is still hitting it like the wave has got some punch. Not to mention he’s also sporting that NSR sticker perfectly.

At this beach, to get this right, you sometimes have to come a little close to the rocks. If you do get a good one and avoid the encounter with the rocks then you are stoked. Coleman from California was pretty stoked about this wave.

Rex “La Bestia” Calderon was stoked to have all the celebrities visiting his home country. Here he is doing his best imitation of AI. Look out AI, “La Bestia” is coming for you!

The last shot of the day is showing a lot of action at the beach, but unfortunately, that A frame in the background is breaking alone. Alright, we will be back tomorrow with hopefully a little bigger surf. Check Back!
