Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, May 22, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Good Monday everyone! Welcome to a new week of waves in wonderful Santana beach, Nicaragua!
The forecast says it´s 3-5 feet but here at Santana there were bigger waves than that!

Javier Baldovinos

I arrived to the beach and nobody was out but a few minutes later these two girls showed up, they went straight to first peak.

From the beach the waves looked great… big A-frames rolling empty, but the girls had a hard time to get on them.

Javier Baldovinos

The waves were really hard to figure them out. After what I thought it was an eternity the first girl took this one wave that closed out on her so she decided to get out of the water.

A few minutes later the other girl took this wave and she surfed it really good. Check out her bottom turn, carving deep into the inside rail, perfect body and hands position!

Then going strong for the lip, throwing a nice spray… again, legs, body and hands in the right place. I don’t recognize her but, by looking at her surfboard´s stickers (Billabong) I bet she has some sort of sponsorship. If you know who she is please let us know through our Facebook page

Only one wave per girl. Maybe they both decided it was too messy for them?

Javier Baldovinos

Right after they left, other people starting to showed up. Here is Bob, a local expat that comes almost everyday to Santana checking out the surf.

Javier Baldovinos

Right behind Bob came this couple, they did some stretching on the sand and off they went to try to catch some waves.

Javier Baldovinos

Everybody that came to the beach saw this… empty, perfect waves waiting to be taken.

Javier Baldovinos

First peak was showing some beauty but definitely they were really hard to take, that’s why nobody was out there. Hard to believe, right?

Javier Baldovinos

This guy was the only one catching waves, the rest that paddled out maybe took one wave and then got stuck on the inside without being able to paddle back out.

Javier Baldovinos

Again, from the beach this is what it looked like but just looking at the people trying to catch them it was not so nice out there.

Javier Baldovinos

After everybody got out I decided to go have lunch and come back in an hour or two to see if the conditions got better, but when I went back to the beach nobody was surfing. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll have cleaner waves. We’ll find out tomorrow!
