Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, May 15, 2017

Hola amigos and welcome to the fresh week of NSR reports! This is Parker here uploading some shots from the morning. Though it was gloomy, you may be surprised. Find out for yourself!

Weather conditions: still raining so Mother Nature wore a groutfit (can’t you tell?). Throughout the morning, it was thundering and apparently lightening. That means you should grab a beer and sit out on your porch late tonight… you might enjoy some beautiful lightening shows over the Pacific horizon. Once those start happening, you won’t want to miss them!

From the weather, we move into the surf conditions: the swell stayed small in size and period. By Thursday afternoon, that new groundswell should be filling in. The winds are likely to stay funky but the waves will pick up and be fun!

But Roger is stoked and on it as always. He’s probably just excited to be back in country and surfing in board shorts. See you out there soon hombre!!

My recommendation is to go fish. Mahi, snapper, grouper, snook, mackerel… fishermen are hooking that everywhere! We know you prefer to surf and the conditions aren’t great, but play the cards you are dealt and go catch some fresh fish for a taco dinner (or hit the Los Perros Santana taco shack tomorrow evening)!

Or, if you live in the area, get your work in order! Next week is looking fun swell wise so get everything taken care of now…

But have some fun along the way!!!

Nate Smieja is in town from Costa Rica with his SUP school (Nosara Paddlesurf). Other months of the year are tough to SUP due to the consistent offshore flow. May through mid June then late September through early November have a lot of light winds (and usually onshores with rain) so that’s a great time for them. At least, getting held up on the lip of a heavy 8 foot wave with a paddle and SUP doesn’t sound too fun to me…

If you adjust your expectations, you will have a ton of fun out there. Yes, the texture is a bummer, but wait for the second or third waves to smooth everything out. Then, it’s like you’re surfing buttery smooth gems!

Because that section doesn’t look too awful, does it? It’s the afternoon so the winds are glassing off and it’s time for me to get a quick surf in as well. Thank you guys for hanging with us through the onshores and remember what’s coming this weekend! Hotsticks is out.
