Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, May 14, 2018

Javier Baldovinos

Hey everyone, this is Baldo with not-the-standard surf report from Nicaragua… today it was big but sadly, onshore all day, pretty bummed after looking at Parker’s Tube Fest from yesterday.

Javier Baldovinos

Messy conditions for sure but there were only 5 surfers on the water and some rideable corners once in a while.

Javier Baldovinos

Because of the size of the swell, the only spot that maybe (maybe!) could have worked is Popoyo, so I went to check if it was working there…

Javier Baldovinos

There were more surfers showing up at the beach, trying to decide if it was worth it or not to paddle out. This surfboard called my attention among the people checking out the waves.

Javier Baldovinos

After a while I decided to go check out other spots to see if maybe there were something better out there.

Javier Baldovinos

I drove around the Popoyo neighborhood to check out Punta Sardinas a.k.a. Battleship Rock a.k.a. Beginner’s bay a.k.a. Mag Rock… there were a few people here but the conditions were very similar to Popoyo.

Javier Baldovinos

The sets came, outside waves breaking hard on the rocks surprising everyone.

Javier Baldovinos

If you were able to stay on the right spot you could get a very slow, crumbly wave to ease the urge to surf on a big day.

Javier Baldovinos

This is the same spot from another (higher) angle… it doesn’t seem too big from here though.

Before going to Popoyo to take photos, I spent the morning with NSR surf report expert, Bryan Scott because he was taking photos of Casa Carolina, a recently renewed home in Rancho Santana (managed by NSR by the way) that will be ready for rent as soon as Bryan edit the photos.

Javier Baldovinos

This is the living room overlooking Santana beach, hopefully Bryan’s photos will look way better than mine!

Javier Baldovinos

To finalize my day with the camera, I went to my local break Santana and, to my “big surprise” the waves were big and very messy, and no one was out.

Javier Baldovinos

Tomorrow the forecast says the swell will drop a little bit and the winds will be back to normal, at least during the morning, hopefully the onshore doesn’t show up, will see. Saludos,
