Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, April 29, 2017

Carl NSR

Beach day!! Sun is out again and waves came up a bit since yesterday so we hauled our asses to the beach and went surfing. Waves were head high on sets, water is still warm, wind is breezy offshore, and while the new energy was a little raw, there were makeable corners to be found all up the beach.

Today's report is a bit of an homage to the oft neglected "set-up". Not as sexy as an aerial or floater, but its the necessary workhorse of surfing maneuvers putting you in the spot for what's next. Here's Brett coiling up for a down the line section.

Carl NSR

Skipping the bottom turn and cranking your board up the face is an essential speed generating tool while surfing fast, sectiony beachbreaks like this one. Louie this one has it dialed and is about the reap the rewards.

Carl NSR

Other times the setup is not about stepping on the gas, but hitting the breaks to make the most of a hollow section.

Carl NSR

The setup is also about body control and surfers who can make themselves small enough are rewarded even on those smaller barreling days.

Carl NSR

.....and of course the setup means nothing if your timing is off or mother ocean is feeling frisky.

Carl NSR

Speed, timing, balance. It sure is nice when setup and execution all come together.

Carl NSR

The disappearing act.

Carl NSR

Success! Can I get a witness?

Carl NSR

We are going to rest up and head down the beach for a few of these outer bombs. Thanks for checking in. We'll see you tomorrow.
