Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, April 21, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone! This is Baldo again from Santana beach. The swell arrived today but it’s still onshore. It was kinda choppy and closing out but still some fun ones came through.

After watching yesterday’s report, my wife wanted to bring the kids to the beach with me. Here she is showing the kids a few tips on how to get a good selfie.

Early in the morning there were 4 people in the water. Here is one of them on a nice looking right.

With the onshore winds the humidity levels go to the roof, everything is sticky and you don’t stop sweating. I just want to be in front of the A/C! But I guess some people want to make the best of it by going for a morning run.

Javier Baldovinos

I always see Gustavo in the water when there are not that many people, I guess he doesn’t like the crowds and he is not that picky with the conditions.

Javier Baldovinos

After a while in the sun I took a 1 hour break, and when I got back I found a better (shady) location with this bird comfortable under this coconut tree. It is called Zanate, it’s the most common bird in Nicaragua.

Javier Baldovinos

This time a found a group of surfers at first peak. The (in)famous wedge was bigger than earlier but had a better shape. You just had to be careful with that drop.

Javier Baldovinos

It was steep and fast but this guy had it all dialed up. He was going just for the biggest waves on each set.

Javier Baldovinos

Who cares about the onshore if you can still get some really nice peaky waves, right?

Javier Baldovinos

There was one bodyboarder too, he was taking off so late on some of the waves gaining so much speed that we could barely handle it.

Javier Baldovinos

Look at him going full speed on a bottom turn. I don’t understand how he didn’t loose control of the board!

Javier Baldovinos

These guys arrived late last night at one of the NSR houses at Rancho Santana, they are on a bachelor’s trip, they just got at the right time for the swell.

Javier Baldovinos

After the big drop you ended up with a lot of speed that, with a good bottom turn, could lead you to have a good turn on the shoulder.

Javier Baldovinos

Look how small the shoulder was, the wave kinda disappeared right away after the drop.

Javier Baldovinos

This is Putnam getting some turns before the wave closed.

Javier Baldovinos

Super late drop on a set wave. This guy is a charger!

And what do you do after a good first surf session in Nicaragua? Relax and enjoy the view from your vacation rental’s infinity pool. Check out this property, you can comfortable fit up to 12 people, right above Rosada beach! Check out tomorrow to see how the waves behave with this swell. Saludos!
